The law is still in place.

You openly posted on this thread that if someone insults Mohammed, you are fine with that person getting the death penalty.

That tells me all I need to know.

I don't have a problem or any hatred towards Islam. I can respect the religion, while at the same time criticize its followers for not doing more to speak out against this stuff. Do you think the government of Pakistan would have cancelled this brutal execution had there not been worldwide negative press?

No punishment. I feel sorry that the person is so mistaken, but I leave punishment for God to judge.

From my perspective, as someone who has read a great deal about Muhammad from various people including Islamic sources, I would say one could not be fully informed to call Muhammad such things.

I feel the same way when a cook at my local diner calls Obama a 'socialist n!gger' intent on 'destroying America'. He said he was fully informed and well read to say things like that (Glenn Beck and Michael Savage are his idols). I cringed when I heard that, but I felt that was his right. He reads a great deal, but in the end his sources were too biased for him to be "fully informed".

Just like the Tea Party wouldn't have tried to get rid of the racists amongst it's rank if there was no negative press?

    Funny how that kinda works........

    BOTH WAYS!

Off topic, but the leader of Pakistan is a murderer and a thief....tells you a lot about that country. IT would have made a lot more sense if the US had invaded Pakistan and not Iraq, which had nothing to do with anything.

I think they would have (cancelled the execution).

As corrupt as Pakistan is, the vast majority of it's high-ranking "leaders" aren't even religious (although they'd never publicly admit it...then again, neither does our President).

They would ask you in English. I don't speak or understand a word of Arabic, and they questioned me in English.

dmc89 is right, if you are able to recite whichever verses they asked (they asked me two specific ones), they would let you in. I'm sure there would be additional questions because of your name though.

    I went in June 2009.

I don't think the US would invade a country with actual WMDs.

Is there an obligation to change my name if I were to become Muslim? I don't think Franck Ribery has changed his name? (I know they call him Bilal, but I doubt it is in his passport.)

No, there's no obligation, but it might prompt the guards to question you further. Just like I was questioned further because of my (Arabic) name at the Israeli border.

If it wasn't in his passport, I doubt they'd let him do the hajj (which he did).

You don't have to change your name, but you would be advised not to keep any name which supports non-Islamic ideology.

If you are persistent, they won't stop you. But you would have to walk the walk and talk the talk and be nice. You won't be treated like anyone else.

Seeing as you're German, I doubt they'd be able to differentiate you from a Syrian anyway.

Hmm...it would definitely be an interesting experience (even though I am not sure I am too eager to be around tons of sweaty people who haven't showered in days).

I think my first name is originally Hebrew. Let me google that. LOL.

Edit: Can you believe that this is the first time I actually found out what my first name means .

There isn't really a place in the world where people look like I do.

    99% of the time, Jewish isn't non-Islamic.

Remember, almost all founding figures in Judaism and Christianity are Prophets/Messengers/somehow connected to Islam.

Moses (in Arabic = Mousa), for example, is an Islamic name.

LOL thanks...googled some more and found both the arabic version of my name and the fact that I am an islamic prophet .

Edit: Grr...looks like my prophet status is disputed!

Ishmael (Ismael in Arabic) is another example.

Just b/c it is the country's law, doesn't make it reasonable. It is not acceptable or reasonable for the woman to be sentenced to death.
