I wrecked many kids in my high school football career doing this same exact thing. I loved kick return! My worst pain was having major surgery on my inner ear. They cut the outside of my ear from top to bottom and peeled it forward to get into my head. Basically, they removed a bone and a half out of my inner ear (Of the three that are in the ear), along with a tumor that was lemon-sized. They somehow packed nine feet of gauze into my ear, which I had to go and get three feet a week removed. That part tickled. The part that hurt was waking up post-surgery. I blacked out, and woke up feeling like I had been repeatedly smashed in the head with a hammer. I was so sick from pain I couldn't keep anything down. Wasn't too fun.
Sure Jan 3 1993 is up there, but I think August 8, 2001 is up there, too. Sadly, having a bad toothache is a close third. In fourth place would be getting the snot kicked out of me when I was in the middle of a brawl and some bigger dude thought my head was a soccer ball and kicked me right in the jaw, making me see stars... although that was painful, it gradually went down and I was hurting for weeks after that. To top it all off, it was on my birthday.
Either the dentist pulling out your teeth at the back just by brute force or the dentist drilling a hole on your teeth without using any pain reliefs. eeeeeeek. Commonly when you are in pain you tend to bite you teeth real tight it makes you feel better. Where in the above cases the dentist keep on saying "open wider, open wider". I was like wtf man ??? I don't know if it's the worst, but it's certainly the thing I mostly want to avoid doing again.
I saw kidney stone mentioned. I was little when I had to pass mine so I don't recall the pain too much. I know I cried everytime I had to pee and would try and hold it as long as possible just so I wouldn't have to pass it. Of course nature's call forced me to. The closest pain I can describe to it is when you're in the shower, and are washing up but accidently some lather gets in your urethra, and the next time you have to pee, you just get this terrible pain due to the lather inside. Maybe too much information, but I imagine I'm not the only one whose had that happen in their lifetime of maintaining good hygiene.
When the drugs wore off after my knee surgery a few years ago, I cried like a little b**** for days. I've also had some SICK ankle sprains. The pain is shorter but much more intense.
Herniated disc. That ****ing sucked balls. It hurt for about a year because I was to macho (read: r****ded) to go see anyone about it. I stubbornly insisted on continuing on with my life including hitting the weights and hoisting huge ass routers around the lab at cisco. Once I went to physical therapy I felt better in about 4 weeks. I was such a dip****.
mine was my ACL surgery. i was laid up for about 10 days and i was sick from pain after the 7th day. i think the most horrible part about it was having to get out of bed to go to the bathroom. when i would get up the blood would rush down my leg and horrible stabbing pains would result from the build up of lactic acid in my calf area. i have to have my acl reconstruction done again since my ligament has stretched out and i am freaking dreading it because now i can't take any narcotic pain killers without sides effects...sweating, itching, can't sleep....man i am looking forward to this. hopefully it won't be as bad the 2nd time.
Reading about all these sports related injuries many of them are preventable like the torn or tigh hamstrings and even the ACL injuries can be lessened. ONe of the most important things that I've recently learned about doing any competitive sport is the importance of warming up. That basically means getting your core temperature up to 102 degrees or to the point where you are sweating. The best way I've been told to do this is calisthenics like jumping jacks, light running, stationary bike, knee lifts and such. The most surprising thing I've learned is DON'T DO STATIONARY STRETCHES AT THE START OF A WORKOUT because apparently when you do stationary stretches this damages the muscles stretched and if you work out intensely you're furthering the damage. Stationary stretches can still be done after to keep the muscles from tightening and cramping up. To avoid cramps drink lots of water before during and after working out. I've never had a kidney stone but I heard this is also good for keeping down kidney stones. In most sports joint, especially knee, injuries are hard to avoid but I've been told by trainers and physical therapist that if you strengthen the muscles in the area around joints they can better withstand the stresses that cause injuries. So you might not be able to absolutely avoide tearing an ACL but by strengthening your leg muscles you can lessen the possiblity.
I had a pretty wicked sunburn after a fishing trip 3 years ago. It was no doubt the worst pain I've ever felt. Two weeks straight of doing nothing but laying face down in bed on top of towels so the dripping blood and puss wouldn't ruin my sheets.
It's the same thing that causes rubbernecks. Here's a website that shows some pretty gruesome 'accidents'. WARNING: NSFW, and not for the easily-offended. http://www.ogrish.com
I O.D'd on booze a few years back and it sent me to the hospital with severe chest pains. Thought I was having a heart attack.
1- Herniated disc, extremely painful, and i still have pain. 2- Getting a root canal, my dentist didnt numb my gums right with the shot, then he started to stick the needle in my gums where the nerve is to get the puss out, and i started yelling, he numbed it right the second time, and you guys think having a bad toothache is painful. 3- Was trying to learn to play cricket while on vacation, the ball is like a baseball, bigger and harder, made of cork i think, cousin throws it like 50 feet in the air, try to catch, miss and gos and hits me straight in the balls, laid in the middle of the street for like 15min. 4- Having to toughen shins for muay thai, thought they were going to snap, use to get bumps the size of plumbs on my shins.
I was going to say when I had my wisdom teeth removed, but I might say when I got kicked in DEEZ NUTS. The pictured of the sunburn comes in 3rd.
Here it is 5:30 in the morning. I woke up a couple hours ago, hungry, which i thought was a little strange as i ate a big meal late. I went back to sleep and woke up about an hour ago. Even though its been about 9 years ago that I pass some kidney stones over a week period, I remember that pain. Tonight wasn't a severe pain, but I do remember this is how it started out. I feel ok now, but im wide awake. I will definately be drinking a whole lot of water over the next couple days just in case. I don't want to go through that crap again.
Good luck Space Ghost. I've never had one, and hopefully never will. How does drinking more water help?
Not severe pain but torture over a week. I had poison ivy so bad that my eyes were swelled shut, I couldn't move any fingers on my hand but my thumb and couldn't bend at the elbow. The continual itching and pain for a week was almost unbearable. I actually pored bleach over my arms at one point because the pain of the bleach felt better than the the itch.
never saw this thread before. that's incredibly cool and messed up. i think i need to wrap myself in plastic when i sleep. cover all orfices
