Food poisoning. I guess I'm lucky, but I don't think it compares to moderate groin pain, a spinal tap I don't even remember, surgery, broken bones or open wounds. The culprit was a Polish Sausage I ate when I took traffic court. To spare unneccesary details that would make the poop at work thread look tame, that night, one hour stretched into 4 and I felt like I wanted to die.
Try clawing at your walls and raving like a lunatic until 4 AM because of a toothache thats making the whole nerve from your tooth up through your ear and into your head throb in searing pain. I chugged a small bottle of Orajel and it numbed my entire throat up to the point where I couldn't breathe, slept with my mouth right next to a heater, it was the worst experience with pain I've ever had by far. When that tooth came out It was like my life had been spared. It would have been nice to have some Vicodin i suppose.
For me, its probally hemmorroids. Usually, they're not that bad, but during my last one, which was pretty severe, I had to endure the pain for a week. It was like living in hell and at one point I almost gave up and went to see a doctor. I refrain from goin b/c I've heard of unpleaseant and painfull surgery procedure with no anesthetic when it comes to hemorroids. So, I just wait it out until it goes away with the help of some home remedy procedure that I've search on the internet...thank god for the internet! After this incident, I'm very carefull when it comes to eating and watch my diet as I don't want to experience this ever again.
I think the worst I've ever had was when my wrist got messed up. I woke up one morning and the wrist/arm bone that lines up with the thumb had moved. It was like my hand had made about a 1/8th turn. That didn't hurt too bad (it wasn't exactly comfy, either). They ran a bunch of tests...and one they did made me cry like a baby that was giving birth to another baby. They stuck a huge needle into my wrist and through a muscle...and started moving the needle around super fast. This lasted for about a minute, but it felt like 20 or 30 years. It was absolutely horrible. They never did figure out how this whole thing happened, but they snapped it back in place and put me in a gigantic cast for a couple weeks. My second-runner up would be a leg problem I had as a kid. It took them about a month to diagnose me with Reflex Sympatheic Dystrophy. My doctors had no clue what it was so they made up lots of treatments. I had to wrap a soaking wet towel around my leg, put Saran Wrap on it to keep it from losing moisture too fast and then put panty hose on over that so it would stay on. Basically, my leg was turning blue...the temperature of the leg was several degrees lower than the rest of my body and when they took my blood pressure in my leg, nothing registered. I seriously thought it was going to have to be amputated. I couldn't walk, couldn't sleep much and it felt like ants were crawling all over it. Anytime someone touched my leg it felt like they were ripping it to shreds. Turns out all I needed was some blood thinners and a lot of water therapy.
surgery on my torn acl surgery to repair torn tissue in my shoulder getting spacers put on b4 braces and getting braces put on twice havin wisdom teeth pulled
So i go to the Dr. about my stone a few days ago. Was worried about a few other things like my cholesterol and blood pressure. Considering I am a big fat ass and smoke, I figured I was in trouble. Blood pressure: 120/82 ...pretty darn good Cholesterol (just got a call a few mins ago): 184 ...pretty darn good So I think I am out of the woods, then .....BAM blood sugar is at 285 and that was after fasting for 6 hours So ....I am now a diabetic .......*** damnit
I just had my first kidney stone removed last month. I didn't cry like a little b**** as I was too busy puking my brains out even though my stomach was empty. I only had bad pain twice and I knew I wasn't going to die for some reason but I wanted to so it wouldn't hurt anymore.
I've had kidney stones on multiple ocassions and they are a 10 on a 1-10 scale. Had to have lithotripsy (shattered via ultrasound) on the first episode and it was no party. However, in that same year, I also had viral meningitis and that headache pain ranked right up on the same scale as kidney stones. I don't wish either on anyone. Good luck with the stones. Edit: just saw the spinal tap reference. When tested for meningitis above, the pain from the spinal tap was a welcome diversion from the headache pain, but did not compare to the meningitis pain.
yeah I never made the 1-3-93 connection lol hmm worst pain probably strep throat and then when I killed a man with my bare hands.
I've got a pretty high pain tolerance which is good because I've got a lot of injuries, injured every major joint in my body and many of the minor ones. As for worst pain its hard to say but here are some greatest hits from my history. - Shattering femur right below the hip joint. The accident wasn't so painful as much as the 4 surgeries following. The worst time was lying there with my leg pinned back together and a swollen draining 16 inch scar on my leg and butt and suddenly sneezing. - Dislocating shoulder followed by slamming it back in myself. I had dislocated the same shoulder about a year earlier and thankfully since it was in a tournament my coach kept me still and they got me to a doctor who placed it back in with almost no pain. The time I put it back in I was playing pick up ball tried to pick off a pass and it came right out. I instinctively reached up and slammed the joint back in. BIG MISTAKE! - Having someone fracture my tibia from a bad leg sweep. I made the mistake of continuing to try to spar. - Breaking my big toe kicking someone in the thigh tied with breaking the other big toe kicking a heavy bag. - Getting nailed in the cashews and almonds from a badly executed Uchi Mata. This is a Judo throw where the person being thrown is pulled onto the throwers back and hip and the thrower sweeps their leg straight back. When this is done badly they thrower fails to pull the throwee onto the thrower's back and hip and instead just sweeps back straight up the middle. Even though the guy didn't technically throw me I jumped up about 4' and threw myself. - Jumping off of a barge into the ocean and landing smack dab on a jelly fish. I remember being in mid air and seeing the jellyfish drift right where I was going land and starting to say "Ohhhh Shiii..." - This wasn't the most painful injury but it was the scariest injury I ever had. I was sparring with a guy who was about 6" tallers and at least 80 lbs heavier and I was throwing him pretty easily so he got pissed and did an illegal technique on me. Basically putting a headlock on and then falling into me. Well my head went one way and my body went the other and I felt a sharp pain all along the base of my neck and a tingling in my extremities. My coach saw it and came running over. He wouldn't let me move and my fingers and toes kept tingling. They called paramedics and they strapped me to a board and imoblelized me. I was convinced my neck had been broken and I was paralyzed. After awhile though I could wiggle my fingers and toes and realized I wasn't according to the doctor all that happened was that the muscles along my neck had been pulled and the tingling was just shock. It was almost a relief to only have to wear a neckbrace for a month than the alternative. Other than those at this point I'm pretty much always got something hurt, right now I'm nursing a sprained hip and a gashed mouth. Days when I'm not hurting actually worry me because then I figure something bad is going to happen. -
Good thing you found that out now, before the 93 ear infections, the bladder infection, and the "falling asleep while walking/driving/doing anything" trick. Type 2, I'm guessing?
codell - hate to hear that about the diabetic and I hope your kidney stones get passed soon. I have been lucky that I have never broken anything and I have only had to get stitches once in my life. Some of these things did not really hurt that bad but I noticed others have mentioned them, so I will mention them. I will also note that some of these things hurt a lot worse considering my age at the time. If they happened now, it probably wouldn't be that bad. 1) I have had both of my big toenails come off at the same time (one from having a guy stomp on it while playing basketball and the other from wearing too tight of softball cleats) 2) I have had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled - was able to avoid the dreaded dry socket; did use a suppository (stuck it straight up my ass) one night to relieve the pain - that thing ****ing knocked me out! 3) I have sprained my ankles playing basketball at least 5 times or more - of course that is intense pain when it happens to you. 4) I partially tore (or at least that is what I think I did) my bursa sack (I think that is what it was) in my back - had ****ing back spasms for 2 days, not pleasant at all 5) Got stung by a yellow jacket when I was 8 or so - wouldn't hurt now but it hurt like hell when I was at that age. 6) Got bit by my dumbass next door neighbor's dog - but that was more annoying than pain. But my top 4 are as follows: 4) When I was 14, I was playing Babe Ruth baseball and in one game I caught a ball in left field that was drifting foul. I was so focused trying to catch it that I never saw the fence. I hit the very top pointy thing on the fence right under my right eye. If I was a little shorter, I would have probably lost that eye. Somehow or another I held onto the ball to record the out (but a runner from 2nd tagged up all the way on the play, LOL). It actually didn't hurt that much but I could feel the blood coming down my face. The only time I have ever had to get stitches. 3) Right before starting grad school (I was like 22), I was playing left field in a church league softball game and I collided with our shortstop in trying to catch a texas leaguer. The front of my face hit the back of his head full speed. The only time in my life that I suffered a concussion. I thought I had broken my nose as blood was going everywhere. I remember literally thinking that my whole nasal area was on fire. Incredibly, the x-rays on my nose were negative and all I really had suffered was a concussion. 2) When I was in the 6th grade, this dip**** classmate of mine *accidentally* kicked my right thumb while we were playing keep away. He wound up dislocating it as I was damn lucky he didn't break it (I still remember the way it looked - it was gruesome). I had to wear a cast for 6 weeks after it got popped back into place. I cried something fierce when he kicked it. 1) About 5 years ago, I was playing softball for the company work team and I didn't stretch too good before the game. Both of my hamstrings were already somewhat tender and tweaked but our coach was short on players and promised me that I could play first base. Well the first time I was up, I missed my pitch and instead of hitting a line drive to the outfield, I hit a weak dribbler to the second baseman, who of course bobbled it. So, I stupidly tried to beat it out and turn on the jets - bad idea. I felt my left hamstring grab and I immediately fell to the ground. I knew that I had torn my left hamstring. The bad thing was we had no subs so I had to stay in the game. I remember walking like Frankenstein's monster out to 1B every inning and the base umpire (who knew me) asking me what was wrong with me. It was absolute hell to drive home as I was putting pressure on the muscle by sitting in my car. When I got home, I tried taking a hot shower and I remember getting stuck in a bent over position. I panicked and called my parents to come over to my apartment so they could take me to the emergency room. They came but they were able to calm me down and prevent me from having to go to the emergency room. The next day, the whole back of my left leg was yellow, purple, and blue. It stayed like that for about 4 months. Somehow or another, I was still able to waterski - I guessed it worked different muscles, LOL. Sorry for going on about this, but the bottom line is that tearing a big muscle like the hamstring or quadricep really sucks bad - probably not as bad as passing a kidney stone. But I would guess it hurts as bad as breaking a bone.
Why wouldn't it hurt now? I got stung when I was about 5 or 6 and I remember the pain then and it has always frightened me to the point I actually run away from bees, wasps, yellowjackets, hornets, or any other insect that stings. Is it not so bad? I guess that experience at 5 or 6 just left me traumatized.
Oh don't get me wrong - it probably would still hurt but it is doubtful that it would be as an intense pain to me now as it was when I was younger. I doubt very seriously I would start crying if I got stung. Hell, I didn't cry when I tore my left hamstring and that was the worst pain (as I described in detail earlier) I have ever had.
I once had a fixateur externe attached to my right tibia after the doctors broke it - for a year. I had to extend the leg by a mm a day (4 x 1/4 mm). Had many surgeries on my leg, but that was one of the worst things to go through because it involved a lot of pain over a long time. I don't want to post a picture or a link, but if you google "fixateur externe", you get an idea...
Definately a kidney stone. I think i was passing multiple kidney stones and I didn't know it. I had excruciating pain at work and i would just double up over my desk and sit there for like half an hour. Finally one night I was having it so bad that i could barely walk. I made me a hot bath and sat in it for two hours. I finally had my mom take me to the emergency room and by that time it had passed and never had them again.
I'm having a hell of a time thinking of anything major, but one moment of pain I will never forget is as follows... I left school one day to go get my braces tightened at the orthodontist and then went straight back to school to play in a football game. I was on the kickoff team and was running full speed down the field to make a tackle when I got blindsided by one of the hugest mother*****ers on the other team. The force of the hit hurt bad enough, but what's worse is that when I got hit I naturally bit down hard on my mouth piece. Anyone who has ever had braces knows how bad this hurts right after getting your braces tightened. Hell, you can't even eat a PB & J sandwhich. Also, my chin strap slipped up off my chin and over my mouth as I took the hit my lower lip was smashed into my braces and got torn up and tangled in them. I had to literally pull my lip out of them. Mmmm...tastes like blood.
Physical. Hmm. Not too much, not that I can think of. I haven't been hit with a crowbar yet, stabbed, no stones passing. I only remember having one migraine like headache. I was probably 11 or 12 or 13 at the time. That was the worse headache i ever had. The only other thing I can think of is when I got cramps in my legs and thighs. I was playing basketball at the NBA Jam Van at the International Festival last april or may. I didn't really streach. They had ten foot goal at about 9'8'' or so, because it looked low for a ten foot goal. I tried dunking it five hundred times. Then when I came up one time, I pulled up gimp. My leg started to tighten up, so I sat on the sidewalk and tried to massage it out, It went away for a bit, so i went to go play some more. It came back again, but in the other leg, so i tried to massage it out. I decided i had enough, and went back to work to get my crap and go home. my mom told me to go to wal mart to go pick some crap, so i am at the wal mart parking lot, and i step outside, and Both of my legs lock up. I couldnt bend my legs. My calf muscles tightend up. my foot was all charlie horsed up, and my thighes were all feeling twisted up. I tried hopping back inside my truck, and i had to use my hands to pull my legs up. I try to rub my legs, and stuff, but it wouldnt go away. that ****ing hurts. i can finally bend it a bit, so i drive home with out going inside walmart. I go home instead, but on my way home i had to pull inside some neighborhood, because it was doing it again, and this time it hurts way more. i had to call some family to pick me up. I thought I had to go to the hospital. I didnt want to go because the Rockets were playing game three vs the Mavs. and we lost that game. It went away after a few hours, but it was sore to walk. reading everybodys post, i think you guys had it worse.
