i wish these veteran superstarts would realize when they are no longer helping the team by getting max salary. Just because Josh Smith could get 13.5 a year doesnt mean Detroit was smart to pay him that. Dwight has made allot of money from the Rockets and the Rockets have only had him for playoff time (for the most part). He should think about signing a smaller salary for a long time.
If your employer offered you a significant amount of money, would you decline and take a decrease in pay so they can have the budget to hire 2 or 3 more workers?
not talking about when the employer offers to pay max... im talking about those players that make their employers pay them the max. So i guess Kobe is a better example.
Compared to padding numbers and contract years of other teams, the way they play is more team oriented. Randos from other teams can become key players through some games in the season and it builds trust in the playoffs. The aging stars get to stay in contention and trust on Pop to keep them fresh throughout the grind. SA is not a popular FA destination. Their way works for them.
Kind of the same thing...plenty of employees that know their worth push for their value, and honestly, these stars (real stars. Not the recent influx of max money mid tier players due to expected cap jump) bring in way more than they get paid. Why is it their job to make sure their boss gets paid more off their backs? It is about balance. Most bargain for max and get it because they are worth it. I never blame them for that if they remain professional and understand it is a job. They don't somehow owe you or their boss millions just because we happen to care as fans lol.
Spurs are great. They have added benefits, like a job with lower salary but you love the work environment, feel like you succeed and won't be mistreated by management (and get more vacation days! ). Look, I'm not saying teams can't ask players to take pay cuts, or that players can't agree to them. I'm saying I understand players pushing for and taking the max because this is their job. They don't owe you as fans or their owners... Thinking of it all in that context is a lot more fair.
David Weiner @BimaThug With 12 players signed, the Houston Rockets are now officially over the luxury tax threshold. Briefly what are the implications? trades, cuts, signings?
If hypothetically the Rox traded TJo to Portland for a (protected) #1 and then signed CBoozer (for whom DM the GM and/or KMc have long jonesed (sic) for) at vet min then what would the salary cap implications be?
how sad that we're actually brainstorming ways on here to salary dump a starter just to save les a few bucks
Well the thing is that were probably going to loose Jones next summer for nothing, we won't want his 5 mill cap hold nor want to pay him 10 mill per. If we can get a 1st and sign Boozer as a replacement i'd be happy. Eases our luxury tax this year and helps our cap next year, while getting a good asset and replacement big in return. And I'm a Jones fan.
thing is we already lost josh smith, and if we believe cyberx's report on dmo's recovery then we might be starting boozer at the 4 spot in november….gulp
Which is why letting Smith go doesn't make sense to me, he would of been the perfect Jones or Motiejunas replacement if either where needed to be traded, which is likely because who here honestly thinks we will be paying Dmo and Jones next off season? They will demand 10+ million each, at minimum unless either takes a huge step back this year. My personal theory is, we will package Jones or Motiejunas(not both), with a player who we re-signed this off season for another PF once all players are eligible for trade. That IMO is the only reason why we wouldn't need to re-sign Smith.
If anything, I've learned to temper news from our insiders. But it is best to err on the side of caution when it comes to DMo.
what you're suggesting is a possibility, but how feasible i'm not really sure. say we package TJ with KJ, that's still not very much salary, and likely won't bring back a new player much better than TJ in the first place. also, if we are to believe that this team is finally finally truly in pursuit, with full intentions to get to the finals, then messing with team chemistry mid-season is in itself a risk to consider. so yes, letting jsmoove go was most puzzling.
Well TJ, and KJ and possibly Dekker with the 150% trade rule would allow us to bring back nearly 10 million. Enough to bring back someone like Anderson, Gibson, Markief etc As well as the possibility of packaging Brewer with TJ and other fillers (Deker, Capela) would allow us to take back 18+ million. I think Brewer is expendable with having so much back court depth, Harden is plenty capable to play the 3 and will be allowed to do so with Thornton, KJ, Terry and Beverley all being able to play at the 2.
i'm not sure the 150% trade rule will apply to us if we use any more of the MLE (or hit the apron?). but even otherwise, anderson and markief would leave us an even bigger hole defensively at the 4 spot, not to mention depleting our wing depth. i would think we'll need to retain at least 2 out of KJ/Brewer/Dekker on the roster. and at the end of all this, if we do bring back $10M in salary (or the whopping $18M) then who on the roster is left to salary dump to get les back under the lux tax?
