Chavez is just holding the bench warm till Q recovers from his appendectomy. Lamb is a good weapon off the bench in a close game... but you're right... he is just not an everyday player.
Kickin ass and taking names guys. I don't think Garner should let Pettite have anymore 120 pitch games this season. Hopefully, this is nothing serious.
We win another series after tonight's win, and we're now officially in 2nd place in the division all by ourselves.
I don't want to look too far ahead but that 11 game road trip after the break looks brutal. If we can come out of there with a winning record then its no stopping this team.
Here in San diego, they replay all the Padre games not played on West Coast. The local guys are gushing all over Taveras. They said that he's the fastest guy they've seen in a while, even calling the run Taveras scored a "Ricky Henderson run"
i agree with nick, springer is a choker. reminds me of jay powell when he was here. sometimes had decent to good stats...but just a choker by nature
No... I was referring to the debacle against Colorado, as the previous poster was talking about. I wasn't referring to the Padres game.
If I ever feel like criticizing Adam Everett's defensive abilities, I just think of Ricky Guitierez and Julio Lugo. It helps. Trust me.
Don't forget every other SS we had like Rafael Ramirez. It's been a bad run since Dickie Thon went down.
I knew you weren't being objective, but Jesus. Springer's pitched in 32 games this year: - he's been ineffective in 5 (1 of those was lost 18-3 & the Stros were shutout 9-0 in another); - given up 1 run in each of 3 games (none of which affected the outcome); - given up zero runs in 24 of his appearances (75%; for comparison's sake, Lidge = 28 scoreless in 34 games, 82%, Wheeler 31 of 37, 84%; Qualls 27 of 39, 69%); He has lost a lead or given up the go ahead run in a tie game 3 times. Lidge has done this twice. Wheeler twice. Qualls thrice; He's inherited 13 runners, 4 have scored (31%), 2 in aforementioned 9-0 shutout (Lidge 5 of 10, 50%; Wheeler 9 of 21, 43%; Qualls 4 of 14, 29%); Of the balls put in play against him, there have been 32 ground balls vs. 34 fly balls (0.94 GB/FB; Lidge 34/32, 1.06; Wheeler 33/40, 0.83; Qualls 68/35, 1.94); Batters are hitting .217 against him. (.291 OBP). He has given up 5 home runs and 5 other XBH (.415 SLG; compared to Lidge .377, Wheeler .303, Qualls .369); To say that he's been anything but a solid reliever so far this year is, well, wrong.
I was a huge fan of Orlando Miller...... ...for no reason I can explain or that would make sense. I guess I just thought it was neat for a shortstop to be that big.
Woody Williams has some kind of evil mojo against us. We ALWAYS hit him hard, but we never seem to be able to break through - and turn those lined outs into doubles.
i know i'm supposed to be rooting for the cubs over the braves...but it's soo sweet to see prior give up 6 frickin runs and the baby bears lose 7 straight!! CUBS SUCK!!!!!!!!
