Yeah since we have Novak I think we should adress our bigger needs like pg and power forward. I know Padgett can play power forward but I dont really see him as one so that means another small forward and we already have too many.

If we need a 4 to shoot threes at the end of each period let it be ....

    Battier.

Signing Padgett would tell me that they plan to trade Battier AND they plan to send Novack to the development league.

Battier is a SF, Novack is a 3/4 twener who can come off screens - Padgett is a straight away shooter

why would Padgett signing have ANYTHING to do with Battier being TRADED

further, since when do the Rox (or anyone else) actually used the D League

Dont be fooled!!!!!! Padgett was and is a scrub that had the fortune to be on teams where he was able to make some three pointers at a fair but not decent percentage. More recently his game has declined and his last team cut his playing time. he is on the lower slopes of his career, pased it and to slow for to days game. Please don't try and make him into something that the Rockets need to have.

If we sign Padgett, it is to get a 4 who can shoot threes, likely at the end of periods or to exploit a matchup (whenever Memphis trots out Swift at the 4).

Last year, we were simply a crap 3 point shooting team. The year before we were not. This is a need that needs to be addressed. JVG has even said that he regrets letting Padgett go fro this reason.

Adding Battier (hands down our most tradable quality outside of the top two), the Rox immediately improve in 3 point shooting. Battier has played spot 4 for Memphis, so he can do it for us too. It is reasonable to assume that Battier can assume the Padgett-of-two-years-ago role.

The book on Novack is that he can shoot and little else. His potential role for the Rox is to be the designated Mat Bullard off of the bench, mostly for three point shooting for the last shot of the game or end of other periods.

Thus, the Rox have two candidates to fill the Padgett-of-two-years-ago role. Signing Padgett would imply that these two candidates won't be on the team, ie Battier traded AND Novack sent to the D league (or Europe) for seasoning.

The team always had good stretches when Padgett was in the lineup...he played well with the mix of players we had...I can't think of a 4 besides Dirk, who can do the pick and pop 3 any better.

Yeah, he is what, 37. Definitely a JVG kind of guy. JVG loves Vets that cant barely walk but with a lot of experience.

You can never have too many shooters...plus Padgett could log a little time at the 4 if needed until Novak muscles up...if we want to surround Yao with 4 shooters that is.

The Rockets are supposed to be moving away from old hasbeens, at least they have been trying to clean up their mistakes of the last few seasons, so why would anyone in their right mind want to bring an old dog like Padgett into the mix? Novak and Battier will be just great out on the perimiter!!

Sign Padgett and waive Ryan Bowen - it costs us a whopping $900K to finally end the Flyin' Ryan experiment. A better team and a few more tickets, parking, beers and hot dogs sold pays for this decision.

Not exactly, we are missing 3 of our most dangerous shooters from our last playoff run; Sura, Barry, Padgett. Id say we could use at least 3 more. Remember ho T-Mac used to defer to Padgett to hit the game winning shots!?!?

If your going to contend with Phoniex, Dallas, and San Antonio, your going to have to have players that can hit open shots.

Seriously, Scotty would be a good addition to help at the 4 & tutor Novak.

As far as Cliff Robinson is concerned, the Nets are going to do a new contract with him according to the article.
