To sign Scott Padgett for a one year non-guarantee contract is a good move.

Firstly, there is no risk involved.

Secondly, this move comes after Bonzi Wells' signing . It means the management feels good about this season after getting Bonzi Wells and rather have one more veteran on bench.

My guess is Scott Padgett is here to stay for this season.

This could be a 60+ wins seasons for the Rockets and the season to watch. Go Rockets!

Padgett is a much better signing than some of the guards. Hayes and Padgett give the Rockets some diversity at PF. Padgett actually has a jumpshot that is a weapon unlike Howard. Padgett should only play limited minutes, but he generally does well when he doesn't guard starting PFs.

The rockets sure do have a lot of players on the team...too bad there isn't a roster spot for all of them

I love pagett, he plays with energy.
Why can't we have both Novak and Pagett? Whats wrong with that? That actually kinda reminds me of devean george and robert horry

Rybo has no chance to stick, getting 2 solid defenders like Battier and Bonzi spelled the end for Rybo, Padgett is the last nail in Rybo's coffin. They better trade him before the preseason because he'll be on the waiver wire when the season starts.

    pg: skip, kb(sg?), jliii
    sg: bonzi(sf), head(pg), snyder(sf), sura(pg)
    sf: t-mac(sg), novak
    pf: battier(sf), jho(sf/c), padgett, hayes(sf)
    c: yao deke

Surely Hayes could play Rybo's minutes at SF?

    C - Yao Ming / Dikembe Mutombo
pf- Shane Battier / Juwan Howard
Sf- Tracy Mcgrady / Steve Novak
Sg- Bonzi Wells / Kirk Snyder / Luther Head
Pg- Rafer Alston / Vassilis Spanoulis / John Lucas

Wha??? We need Chuck Hayes in the lineup... We just signed Padgett ???

There has to be another trade they ae considering. Maybe Howard is on the go. Hopefully not at the price of Luther Head.

I pray you're right. Whatever he gave us last season, we now have in Battier and Wells, just more of it and at a higher quality.

man if only we could fuse padgett's shot and size into haye's rebounding and athleticism. theres your ideal 4 spot. oh well, rybo's on the way out. no trade in the making. juwan isnt goin anywehre and who knows, he might just be a player coach like *ahem* some other former jvg players.

I'm not convinced that Steve Novak is going to necessarily make the rotation based on his summer league performance. There have been many players who have had success in July that didn't translate to success in November.

However, my main concern is never seeing Ryan Bowen step on the court for the Houston Rockets ever again.

    me too.

he had a reason for being on the team before. he was our hustle player and defender. however, we now have arguable the best in the business at that in battier.

i don't see novak in the rotaion this season either. i tihnk head keeps his backup minutes and snyder subs at the 3.

i don't see anything fishy about JVG inviting scotty to camp. he loves scott and just wants to give him a fare shake at making a roster spot. however, i feel that JVG would never cut bowen.

    yao-deke
    shane-jho-hayes
    tmac-snyder-novak-bowen
    bonzi-head-sura
    rafer-kb-jl

looking at this...maybe padgett could mean the end of howard while snyder and jacobson mean the end of head. both could be going for a big guy.

So you would replace him with Chuck Hayes? That actually makes more sense to me, but what about Padgett?

    Last Season Scott Padgett :-
    Field Goal % .353 3Pt Fiel;d Goal % .347 FT % .794
Next April he will be 31 years of age.
By the looks of it he will fit the recent Rocket's roster trend of cheap, sub par players, on the cusp of being over the hill.
Which we have been desperatly trying to get away from!!

I don't think he will even make the roster....if he does, it means Van Gundy doesn't think much of Novak or Jacobsen....

I'm not sure about Jacobsen but I think Novak will get time mostly about 10 mins maybe 15 mins cuz we need a good deep shooter and Rockets are going to play him cuz they are thinking about now not future. I mean the whole Gay for Battier trade is pretty self explanatory!

Jacobson, Spanoulis, JLIII, Azubuike, Head, Snyder, Hayes, Novak are pretty young additions to roster the past two years.

Padgett, Alston, and Wells are recent additions that are about 30-31 years old.

Battier is not on cusp of over the hill.

Wells and Battier are definitely not subpar players. Snyder is coming off a very average year. Of our subpar additions, I think Padgett and Head both have shown they can fit the Rockets system in the right situations. Head does have the potential to be a very average player this year.
