As much as I hate Bowen, I wouldn't choose Padgett over him.

Padgett can do nothing but shoot spot up jumpers when he's left all alone. Big whoop.

Bowen might not be able to put the ball in the bucket, but at least he isn't the sieve on d that padgett is, he actually annoys people with his spazz d. And grabs a few hustle rebounds.

But really I don't want Bowen, Padgett, or Cassey anywhere near the team I root for. They all suck.

Remember that Padgett is quicker than most power fowards. He surely had some nice moments with the rockets 2 years ago. (ie. the steal that triggered 13 in 33 and that game that he and t-mac played out the pick and pop.) I'd keep him on the roster for sentimental reason...it's not like azubuike, jacobsen, or sura would be much use to our team so it wouldn't hurt to have him on the 15 player roster.

I guess you would have put Novak in the "No White Players - Please!" category if you'd had a chance to see him play.

Which you probably won't, under Van Gumby.

I have to say that, as a white man, I found this offensive.

    Go Rockets!!!

I can't believe how little appreciation there is for The Body around here. The guy only shot 40% from 3 for us, and helped us catch fire when Juwan went down with the heart infection. You'd think after our disastrous shooting season last year, we'd learn to appreciate guys who could shoot the ball. When we cut him last year, I knew it was a mistake, and JVG apparently agreed, in hindsight of course.

He also hustled his ass off for us, and is probably light years ahead of Novak in terms of rebounding and defense (as funny as it sounds). He can be a shooting 4 reserve until Novak packs on the pounds. With our stable of swingmen, I would cut Bowen instead of Padgett any day.

Oh please! Save it for story time.

Scott is nothing more than a 3rd string scrub. He is awful, and any mentioning of him in the rotation is pathetic for a team qualified for a championship run. I assume he'll be over Casey in the decision of the roster due to his expierence with Coach. However, this just pushes back Novak's time more. Obviously, we see Padgett in Novak, but Novak is a lot quicker of the picks, and a little more versatile in his offensive game. Also, I'd like to see some youth on the books. It's a bad personnel move if we do complete this transaction because of those aspects(1.scrub, 2. pushing back Novak's time).

Battier is exactly what Bowen is, except with a decent shot. With Shane looking to get 30+ minutes a game, Bowen should just be let go. Padge may only be able to hit an open shot, but with the makeup of our team making that shot goes a long way.

Or you could put it like this. Bowen can do nothing, Padgett can do 1-thing. It's pretty unanimous who you choose to keep and cut. If it was up to me, though it isn't, none of these guys would be on the roster.

This definitely is interesting, if Wells eventually signs, how many player is that?

I'd imagine Sura is done, I'd think Azubiuke is just there for practice, so it's Padgett, Jacobsen, and Bowen competing for 2 spots. I'd take padgett over Jacobsen, that's for sure.

Scott Padgett is a huge signing for us. He provides another bigman who also shoots the ball very well. I'd rather have Padgett play than Hayes or Novak. This signing makes it clear that Jacobsen,Absillke will not make the team.

Good move. I was wondering when it was going to happen.

Some things to be clear on:
    1. Padgett and Novak are not redundant. Both can shoot but Padgett is a 4 and Novak is more of a 3 due to lack of strength/weight (20 lbs less than Padgett).
    2. Padgett will not be a rotation player unless disaster hits. He will be a situational player (such as replacing Yao when the Rockets are down big in the 4th quarter) when the team is desperate for 3's.
    3. He doesn't mind being at the end of the bench.
    4. He hustles.
    5. He bumps Haryasz out and possibly Bowen.

These are all good things. Welcome back, Scotty!!

I swear half of ya'll are nuts.

Padgett hits 40% from 3 - I seem to recall a neverending stream of "letting padgett go was a mistake" comments during last season. A stream of "we need shooters" justification for mike james. The constant "3-pt shooting 4 will space the floor" strategy. Sheesh.

Howard is a decent power forward - knows his role - but can't always be counted on for stellar play. But he is a _great_ role player. Dude knows how the team and his place works.

Bowen is crappy for offense but he's a great "irritate the snot out of the other team" player. Remember Bowen hastling Dirk?

Let it go already. These are all useful players.

Scotty Padgett had the highest 3 point percentage of any rockets player in history, so no stats will match your suspicions. He shot 40.78% from behind the arc during his rockets tenure.

In other news, the Houston Rockets have acquired the entire Atlanta Hawks team to add to their roster along with the German National and French National teams. Training camp will be held in the Austin Civic Center and parking lot. Try outs begin Monday, October 2 at 5AM.

good move ... I agree with whomever said they smell a trade ... which will be another good move, hopefully.

We still need some insurance at center, a better starting 4, and a playmaking PG, who can shoot the 3. But, I'm glad we got Padgett, especially on a minimum non-guaranteed contract. We need his 3 point shot for spacing.

By the way, whomever asked where we had money to get him, you can sign as many players as you want at the veteran's minimum, which I'm assuming is what we gave him.

Padgett's not the answer to our rebounding shortcomings, that we're still waiting for.

Padgett is another shooter though. Notice the contract is non guarenteed so I'm guessing he still might not make the team?

I'd rather see a newer guy make the team - Jacobsen or Azubuike - just to shake things up.

I believe we will be ok with shooting with or without Padgett.
