Regarding Ming's NBA number. Are all Asian cultures steeped in numerology? I know that the family name for the Japanese car company is actually "Toyoda" but the brand name was changed when it was marketed in the US. The "number" of pen strokes in took for "Toyota" was a luckier number from a numerology standpoint.
I hope they're taking someone from houston whp speaks Mandarin... Maybe they should take collier with them too. He could work out against Ming and everything goes well they could leave him their as part of the deal.
SEND LARRY SMITH, TOO ! The Rockets need to send Larry Smith to check out Yao, by banging him around in the post while he tries to post up and shoot jump shots, hook shots or whatever. Afterwards the doctor can give him a physical examination of his legs, arms, ribs. and spine to check for damage. Maybe send Willis to test him out also --if that is permitted under the rules. As an early Yao supporter, let's face it it all gets down to trusting Rudy, CD and the Rockets scouts to make the right decision.
That would give them time to finish up the pre-draft camp in Chicago before grabbing a flight out of O'Hare.
Just wondering (hypothetical): Not that it's necessary; Not that they would necessarily want to (although I sure would); Could one of our players accompany our mini-delegation to China? As long as he didn't work out with the guy? It should be OK, shouldn't it? I wonder if we can get Steve to Berlitz so he can understand when Yao's yelling at him, "Pass me the damn ball! Just once! Come on, baby, I'm beggin' ya!"
I say we try to get Barkley to go somehow. Barkley is Ming's idol. I think he could give him some rebounding lessons too. I wouldn't know if he eeds any though.
Yes. My parents changed their phone number to one that they and there friends believed would bring good luck. Regarding Miss Cleo: You know she isn't really from Jamaica, right? I think she's from El Segundo or something like that.
I don't know what the pro-Ming camp is so excited about. The Rockets are just scouting Yao Ming to see if they want him. It doesn't mean they are not also exploring other avenues. This does not change anything.
Brown said he was also told that China wants assurances that Yao will be able to play for its national team during international competition. Hehe, Now who is it that wants assurances from whom? Signed letters from key officials for everyone!
The "pro-Ming camp"? Wow did you bolt out of that camp quick. That "Dare to be Great" thread was pretty good too. You know the Kings lost, right? No one really knows, but two dead-on people say simply "Ming is ours if the hurdles clear." I don't think the Rockets still need to be sold on Yao the basketball player.... but who knows -- maybe they'll find a fatal flaw or two in his game while up there. I'm also told the Rockets get new trade offers every day, but they won't do any serious discussions until questions with China are answered.... we'll see what happens. Next week we should know a lot more than we do now.
Actually local news did a segment on her last month, she is a fraud (like she fooled anybody). She is from somewhere in California (?), no accent, no psychic abilities. It was pretty funny, they were showing footage from some low-budget communtiy play, and there she was singing & acting. Evidentally she left there on bad , bouncing checks, etc...
Actually, taking Cato there would not have been a bad idea. We'd see what Yao can do against some of the worst the NBA has to offer.
Give him "1," Scottie Brooks' old number. Not only will we draft him "1," but he will be the "1" to watch. I just hope we actually give him a number because that means we drafted him and KEPT him.
Rocket!!! and oeilpere told me in their secret email lists that their sources say it was just cheaper to get a ticket from HOU to Shanghai w/ a LAX layover than it was to get a ticket just from HOU to LAX. CD and Rudy are just going to get out at their halfway mark and go hang out w/ Odom.
