If it works out, dear Lord, the Pacers are going to be unbeatable.

    Every position is stacked...perfect balance.

    I'm jealous.

Signing Bynum is obviously preparation for the inevitable matchup against Greg Oden and the Heat in the playoffs.

Bynum still has the idea he's good and is looking for a multi-year deal over the min. The Pacers really don't need him so why bother, I think the deal falls through unless he takes a prorated deal ending this season.

@WojYahooNBA: Barring an unforeseen snag, Indiana will sign free agent center Andrew Bynum today, sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Smart move by Indiana. Low risk, high reward.

I don't know about y'all, but I really hope the Pacers win a title this year (unless we of course make it to the Big Dance). I mean, they've never won one, and their roster is filled with hardworking, blue collar type of guys. Their best players were homegrown and drafted by them.

And what Larry Bird said really hit home for me; he basically said that because he never won something for Indiana in high school or college, that he wants to bring the state a championship before he goes.

Sources: Pacers to sign Andrew Bynum
The Indiana Pacers will sign free-agent center Andrew Bynum on Saturday, sources told Yahoo Sports.

    Andrew Bynum (USA TODAY Sports)
The acquisition of Bynum could deliver the Pacers a formidable bench presence as they try to get past the Miami Heat and reach the NBA Finals.

After a failed partnership with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Bynum was suspended and ultimately traded to the Chicago Bulls who released the former All-Star center on Jan 7.

There's still intrigue about Bynum's ability to overcome chronic knee problems and become something of a force again, despite an uneven performance in averaging 8.4 points and 5.3 rebounds for the Cavaliers over 24 games. Bynum met with Pacers president Larry Bird and team officials in Indianapolis on Friday.

Behind All-Star center Roy Hibbert, Bynum could help give Indiana one of the biggest and deepest front lines in the league.

After averaging 18.7 points and 11.8 rebounds with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2011-12 season, Bynum missed the following season after a trade to the Philadelphia 76ers.

I don't know. I think it is good for the fact he isn't going to Miami.

Great move by the pacers & bird! this is their year wades declining they have granger on his expiring contract and Paul George big contract doesn't start until next year. You go all out in this situation !!!

they are deep with Solid bigs, that's how you want to go into the playoffs READY to match up with anybody. I'm sure bird sat Bynum down and told him what his role would be in the team and Bynum accepted it because he wants another ring, any issue bird can easily cut Bynum & not think twice they were deep before just deeper now. Hibbert can get rest going into the playoffs and during with matchups with weaker teams in the playoffs. They're just getting ready for the WAR with the heat. Heat take take that L.... MOREY & BOSH I'm looking at you!

    Hibbert/mahmi/Bynum

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Pacers announced Saturday they have signed free agent center Andrew Bynum to a contract for the remainder of the season. Per team policy, no terms were released.

“We are obviously happy to have him join our team,” said Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird. “He gives us added size, he is a skilled big man and he has championship experience. With the minutes he gets, he should be a valuable addition.”

Bynum will join the Pacers sometime next week.

“It really wasn’t a hard decision, I think it’s the right fit for me and, in all honesty, I think we’ve got the best chance of winning,” said Bynum. “It will be great to back up Roy and I’ll do whatever I can to help this team.”

"We are obviously happy to have him join our team," Pacers president of basketball operations Larry Bird said in a team release. "He gives us added size, he is a skilled big man and he has championship experience. With the minutes he gets, he should be a valuable addition."

The Pacers, who had a roster spot open, have $2.1 million left of their midlevel exception, and could use some or all of it on Bynum. But the Pacers are roughly $1.8 million below the luxury-tax threshold, and Bird has said repeatedly they do not plan to pay the luxury tax.

^^^ already we're deep and just had a roster spot waiting around. That's how you build a championship team. Rockets have 2 guys in the dleague & one in brewer who doesn't even play with no intentions to by the staff.

See my SIG before this signing, we can reevaluate after Feb.20th I don't think MOREY is going to not make a move. But I would've signed Bynum and waived. Brewer as soon as he went on the market. Anything can happen with asik or smiths knee & would be easier to trade asik. we don't know what camby can give us either if that's what MOREY is waiting on.

this is a defensive move by Pacers. :) but he won't get playing time, just dont want to give Miami a force in the middle.
