There was another possession after that block on Artest. Game was pretty much out of hand but Stephen Jackson went in for a dunk and got fouled mildly rough. NOthing major but at that point is there any reason to push foul? I think Artest took that kind of personally as it seems him and Jackson are buddies. Artest did foul Wallace pretty hard but I don't think it was completely intentional. Usually when I foul like that I go up to the player immediately and make sure they are okay.

Also that fan in the video is such full of BS. That is the same fan that jumped at Artest right and said something to him to make Artest throw punches at him right? He shouldn't have been on the court in the first place.

according to their profiles on espn, artest outweighs big ben 247 to 240. whatever their true weights, it's pretty even. for some reason i don't think artest is too scared to fight anyone in the nba. mostly cuz he's just that crazy but also b/c he'd be bigger and tougher than most of them.

    D. Stern quote:

"Second, we must re-examine the adequacy of our current security procedures in Detroit and our other 28 arenas. The actions at Friday’s game, though unprecedented, must now be factored into all efforts to guarantee the well-being of our fans. "

Sorry, but aren't there 29 other arenas?

    Stern's such an ass.

Lakers and Clippers both play at the Staples Centre, correct? 28 other ARENAS, 29 other TEAMS.

Also, Artest is apparently suspended for the remainder of the season, plus playoffs (if the Pacers make it), pending an appeal. O'Neal got 25 and Jackson 30. Wallace got 6 and Anthony Johnson got 5. Billups, Coleman, Campbell and Reggie Miller all got 1 game (for leaving the bench - which they have served in the game Pistons v Bobcats, and Pacers v Orlando)

Wasn't Reggie injured? I think he needs to get healthy first and then sit out that one game. Of course, it's easy to "arrange" that... :).

    hay·mak·er ( P ) Pronunciation Key (hmkr)
    n. Slang

A powerful blow with the fist.

I think there is a connotation that a haymaker is kind of a wild or out of control punch....

All of you brilliant ethnologists, such as NJRocket, Moestavern, and the rest, who clearly, convincingly, overwhelmingly identified the gentleman above as the "Mexican" who was punched by O'Neal based on a little bit of grainy video footage, and despite the fact that Detroit has among the largest per capita Mid-Eastern populaces in the world, will be happy to learn that he has been identified in the Detroit News as

    Mr. Charles Hadad
    http://www.detnews.com/2004/pistons/0411/21/pistons-11169.htm

Hadad, of course, is a semitic name - common in Syria and Lebanon, as well as Israel. So I'm guessing he's not of the Mexico City Hadads, or the Guadlajara Hadads - Given that Detroit's ME populace is several times that of its mexican one.

But I guess it was too PC to point that out, in retrospect, and makes me an intolerant PC Nazi for having the gall to say that. I thank everybody who reminded me of the fact that i was a nazi for pointing out that you were way, way wrong, when in fact you were way, way wrong.

Better to just lump all brown people together as Mexicans - even if they're arabs.

Dang, that punch by O'Neal was not called for. It was not self defense, there was not a threat to him. What excuse does he have? Still, I can't stop looking at it.

Of course he looked like it, because you're ignorant of certain demographic factors and you made an ignorant judgment. Now your judgment has been proven wrong. But again, feel free to keep making ignorant judgments in public.

NJ, your face saving attempt is failing miserably. Maybe you should try for a 4th time?

    EDIT: Strike 5!

EDIT 2: Strike 6! Wow you are taking a lot of swings for somebody who doesn't care, no? :D

What's going on? Why are we arguing about the ethnicity of the person? People make mistakes.

because Sam has nothing else to do....he has nothing to add to the topic so he decided to get upset that i referred to the guy who got decked as "the mexican guy"....so Sam spent the entire afternoon pulling up articles and quotes from various websites showing me how its impossible for the guy to be Mexican...doesnt that sound fun?
