That is correct. It will be interesting to see how much money Indiana or any other team would offer him.
this article puts me in worry b/c indiana is his hometown, so the offer would be very tempting for him
Question, under the Gilbert Arenas rule, teams aren't allowed to extend offers to another teams restricted FAs that the players original team cannot match. If that's true, why can't we spend the full MLE right away and then force Landry to take our original qualifying offer by saying we are no longer able to match another teams MLE offer? The catch has to be that the rule only applies to money you have headed into free agency, rather than money you currently have left over when your restricted FA signs another teams offer sheet...not sure though.
I don't think that is how it works, I think every team has an MLE, and that is the range that other team's can offer for RFA's like Landry, but once we spend any portion of it, or offer it elsewhere and have it accepted, other teams can offer a larger portion of the MLE than we can, even by $1 and we can't match, unless the guy we made the offer too is restricted and our offer gets matched too. Round and round, dosey doh...grab your partner, here we go.... DD
Gotcha, that makes sense, just trying to cover all the options. But, I was under the impression that only teams that are over the cap are offered the Mid-Level Exception, as in exception to being over the cap. If that's true, hard to believe the Kings and Pacers are actually over the cap, ouch...
I can't imagine Indiana offering him anymore than 3-4 million a year. Even if their offer exceeded that amount I would hope the Rockets would match any contract of 3 years or less (doubt Landry would sign such an offer sheet). If that was the case and he totally craps out we wouldn't have to pay him but really for one extra year and then use the expiring contract to trade for LBJ when the Cavs decide to dump him before they lose him in FA in 2010
Thats not really irony, maybe if they had declared some sort of immunity to Carl before hand, but even then....
What's the big deal about landry? I guess the rox saw too many chuck hayes blown layups, now we put Landry in Barkley class. If they offer more than 2m per, let him go, he's a dime a dozen.
if he goes for the money, OH well.....we are the ones who drafted him....he will do well in this offense...if he goes for the money rather than best fit, he will lose more money in future....
Has the Pacers made an offer or it's just the indy news making a prediction? Well, we can only hope that they do not put up any offer.
