Owners always say they will match regardless - it's a negotiating tactic to scare teams away. Teams who make an offer have to wait a week to see if the home team matches which ties up their money while other FAs are being snapped up by other teams. It's a risky proposal to try and score a RFA since you may lose the guy you were targeting AND a suitable 'plan B'. Les has to say that even if it's true there is a limit to what he will match because it's in the team's best interest to scare away potential suitors.
They're limited to $2 million by the luxury tax. But......what could unfold here is them offering Lowry the full MLE and then asking for a S&T. This could yield us another expiring and draft pick to use to acquire our 2nd maximum salary free agent. I love Lowry, but I gladly throw him in a trade if it means we net Bosh and Lebron or Bosh and Joe Johnson, or Bosh and Paul, etc.
Fo real? Only reason I say shannon brown is because he has the same toughness as Lowry but a better shot. (and finishing ability)
I would be shocked if a backup PG gets that kind of money in the economy of the NBA, and the CBA expiring. Look at Ramon Sessions for the type of deal Lowry may be looking at....in fact, trade Lowry to Minny for Sessions, he is a better player. DD
Ramon Sessions is the most over valued role player in the entire league...Some people act like he is the next Isiah Thomas, i get so tired hearing about this guy...... I'll take Lowry over Sessions any day
Sessions is a quality pass first PG. He needs to get out of Minny to a better situation. Lowry is also a quality pass first PG....Sessions is better. DD
You're crazy, I'd take Lowry over Farmar and Brown anyday. Like most have said here, let the Pacers think Jordan Farmar or Shannon Brown are the best fit there, better for us.
Isn't the Lowry vs Farmar argument the same as the Battier vs Ariza one? I mean Farmar has 2 rings now....... Farmar is not a bad PG, he just needs to go somewhere that he actually gets to touch the basketball. DD
If you think Shannon Brown is better than Lowry than you DRASTICALLY overvalue the dunk. If the dunk were worth more points than a regular layup, than the discussion is valid, but there is little on the court Brown does better than Lowry. Being more athletic doesn't mean anything just like slapping the ground while in defensive stance doesn't make you a better defender. Lowry's game might not be as flashy as Brown's but he is far more effective - better defender, smarter with the ball, finishes at the hoop just as much if not more. Lowry is a true PG. Brown is just another combo guard.
I don't know if I prefer him over Lowry......but if Indiana overpays for Kyle, then Shannon is the replacement I want
Adam Morrison also has two rings. Farmar averages about two complete boneheaded moves a game right now as a backup - whether it's a poor decision with the ball or a completely blown defensive assignment. He can be effective in spurts, but if he is your team's starter then your in trouble. Has all the tools to be a starting PG, but he seems to be missing the focus and ability to plug into a game...or maybe he is just not that smart. Either way, I would take Lowry all day over Farmar.
