Can you imagine what this is doing for AI? I remember when the All-star game was in Denver, he was tired as hell and that was a surprise. He has already got an insane motor in him, living in Denver will allow him to play 48 min w/o getting tired
The Arenas thing was that he's already using the tent but he was going to get them to do his whole house like that. I'm sure it's just the house he uses during the season, but still...
Why don't we get 'magician' David Blaine to assist Yao in all types of physical endurance abilities. And Yao could also learn that levitation trick to help him win some jump balls. (BTW, I read somewhere that the trick is just a depth perception thing where you stand on one foot at an angle to the viewer) BTW, is this your card? Spoiler
Arenas was first person to do this. He even made his entire house like this and just takes a tent around to hotels. Arenas became super badass (He started this late last year). It could work.
Silly idea... why not just sleep with a surgeon's mask on, it will be much cheaper and get similar affect right? I think it's more mental than anything as far as "feeling" more energetic or better conditioned after training in high altitude condition. Have there been studies to show that athlete who trains in these condition physically show bigger lung capacity ? Anyhow, if this was the case then athlete from higher altitude regions would be better and win more in contest which requires endurance right? How many championship has the Jazz won ?
I think you can will your mind to do things when your body wants to quit and give in . Assuming one has trained properly, I think a strong mind , heart, passion along with the drive and will to win will push you to compete harder and be more effective than any higher altitude training will do for you.
High altitude training to increase endurance is not a myth, it's a regimen used by many world class athletes. Your body reacts to lack of oxygen by producing higher concentration of red blood cells. When you return to near sea-level, your body will maintain high RBC level for at least several days, allowing more oxygen to be carried to various tissues/organs, including the muscles, during intense physical activities. It has nothing to do with increasing lung capacity. The altitude of Salt Lake City (~ 5000 ft) is not enough for the altitude training (8000 ft minimum). Besides, endurance is not a problem for Jazz players, but is for Yao.
Again, This theory of training in high altitude, then gaining an edge in endurance while competeting at sea level is just that .. a "theory". There are no scientific studies which support that. However, now they have reversed direction and come up with new theory. Instead live at high altitude and train hard at sea level. Go figure huh? Anyhow , I'm not buying it. Save your money and sleep with a paper bag over your head to deprive oxygen . It's just as effective simulation Here is the link to an article relating to this . The problem with high-altidude training is that some of the very adaptations your body makes are a hindrence at low elevations. However; the idea that if you can just increase your red blood cells and nothing else - you will get a boost of endurance at all altitudes realative to what you were at before. So the train low sleep high theory.
