    Here's the thing, though....

the world isn't this black and white.

there aren't good guys over here and bad guys over there. Each one of us is capable of doing really good stuff and really crappy stuff, all at once. And none of us is perfect.

So Cushing makes a mistake...but that doesn't mean there aren't other things about him that are admirable. That are even worthy of imitation.

If I'm asking someone to work hard...I point to the hardest worker as the example.

The problem with this analogy is that his use of banned substances (and subsequent lying about it) is part of what enabled him to work so hard.

I mean it's a lot easier to be an offseason workout warrior if you're cycling on to deca dura whatever benol. - they're specifically designed to do that.

I understand, and I'm not trying to give Cush a free pass. Maybe if Bob had more time to think about it...or if he had it to do over again...he wouldn't have said it.

I think the bigger point is...Bob ain't thrilled with what he sees in terms of work ethic from Amobi and Mario. I can't imagine anyone being surprised by that.

Yet, he has came back at the same weight as last year. Not to mention his play improved as the season went on.

I think this is brilliant of Bob McNair.

Apparently EVERYONE can see how hard Brian works. From the top of the org to the bottom it's apparently no secret. Mario and AO know it as well.

All Bob has done is let the players know that he sees it too. The owner, the one who writes the checks, is telling some of his players what he values from his players.

He could have called them into his office and told them but I think that would have been more detrimental to their ego (and we all have an ego to deal with) and their performance because it might give the impression that they were in "trouble" and being called into the "principal's" office.

This keeps the tone conversational and public and it also gives notice to other players who don't have the status within the org that Mario and Amobe have.

Now Mario and Amobe have a choice. If they believe McNair's being unfair then they can prove him wrong. If they think he's right then they can step up their work outs to show they want to perform in accord with the owners values. If they do then I'm sure they, and we the fans, will be richly rewarded.

BTW - where was this when he was giving 8 million dollar bonuses to crap QBs
that had been nothing but a disappointment?

Not once did he call our David Carr. Who showed NOTHING.
But . . . Mario . . who has been to the probowl
NOW HE WANTS TO CALL OUT PLAYERS???

I never understood this. I hear so much gripe about Mario, but Mario is everything we need from a DE, now keep in mind some of the criticism that surfaced was last year when it appeared he wasn't making enough strides on performance, but he did enough for a down year to get to the Pro-Bowl..and if that was a "down" year, this year appears to be heading into "Elite Pro-Bowl" season if there was such a thing..So far this year he has been beast. He's awesome and I think this may be one of his better years ever for sacks...He may get close to 18 I do think...
