Yup, I remembered that game in my original post. Now tell me how we owned him in the other games he's gone off on us. Points/rebs/assists since the 2005 season for Lebron against us : 19/4/8 32/9/5 36/6/5 21/5/4 32/12/8 32/7/6 26/13/11 27/9/5 21/1/0 (woo, we ownjoo lubrawn!) 27/6/7 29/5/6 (in 29 minutes)
DoD, Lebron puts up phenom numbers every night, this is no lie. You do not stop Lebon James, you pray to Gandhi that your dreams come true and he falls down and doesn't get up for at least 5 hours. I would just like to point to the Rockets record vs the Cavs during the Lebron era, I'm sure you will agree that it is as ample as the breasts of Christina Hendricks. Also explain why you chose to exclude FG percentage, I find it very germane to the topic at hand, do you not agree?
Owning a team isn't the same to me as owning a player. And yes, early in their career TMac torched the Cavs and Lebron, but that was basically the first 2 or 3 years Lebron was in the NBA. He's done pretty much what he's wanted against us since then.
I agree with all that, but if we don't really stop Lebron James, how are we owning him? We may beat the Cavs regularly, but owning Lebron means stopping him, doesn't it? No, not really. I can give you several instances of where a player could not be stopped, but his team still lost. I still don't see how the player was owned in those situations. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding. Nope. In the games I mentioned above, when he wasn't shooting well, he was still getting rebs and assists. The only exception and really bad game (by Lebron standards, anyway) was the 21/1/0 game. In those games I mentioned above, he's still shooting 45% and averaging 27.5 ppg even with the 2 or 3 dud shooting games, and he's a career 48% shooter and 27.8 ppg scorer. So I'm going to stick with my opinion that no, we don't "own" Lebron. We may have made him look human for 1 game, but that was about it. Maybe our definition of the word is different.
If Lebron doesn't have the number #1 play on LebronCenter the night your team has played Lebron, You OWN Lebron.
Yao Ming gets owned by a lot of centers, specifically those that: a) don't bang with him b) guys that bang with him but have a much lower center of gravity Players that belong in a: 1. Mehmet Okur and Carlos Boozer 2. The entire GS squad Players that belong in b: 1. Perkins 2. Maxiell Oh yeah there's also category c: everyone who fronts him Sad to say, however Yao is like Batman but with Superman's weakness to kryptonite.
while i would also agree that we haven't really owned lebron because no one does, that one game (at lebron's peak no less) was so bad by lebron standards that that's about as close as anyone can come to claiming they own lebron, no matter what else he does to you. incredibly, that's the only game in his entire career without an assist. and he's only had 2 games with 0 rebounds. in fact, if you add assists and rebounds, that total of 1 is the only game under 4 in his career and we're actually one of the 4 games as well. throw in some of tmac's big games against him and our record against him and it just "feels" like we own lebron, even if we don't. owned! edit: actually, now that i look at his career splits, we kinda do own lebron. looking at basketball reference, his 23.8 ppg against us is his second lowest total against anyone (the clippers of all teams are first at 23.6). his 6.3 rpg are 6th worst. his 5.6 apg are easily his worst. his 1.2 spg are 2nd worst. his .57 bpg are tied for 3rd worst. his 42.2 FG% is 2nd worst (again the clippers). even our ft defense is awesome against him; his 66.7 FT% is easily his worst. so even with 23.8/6.3/5.6/1.3/.6 stats, we do own this guy. to be fair, he did only play 17 minutes against us one time but we own him so bad we can even injure him.
What's your definition of getting owned? Are Boozer and Maxiell playing center at all? Do they guard Yao at all? Do they have much better stats playing against Yao at all? GS owned Yao, is that the reason Yao averaged 26/11 on 60% shooting against them last season? Head to head, Yao outscored Okur, outrebounded Okur, shot better percentage. Is that your definition of being owned? Head to head, Yao outscored Perkins by 12, out-rebounded Perkins by 5, while shooting over 52%, is that your definition of being owend? Oh, everyone fronting Yao is owning him. It doesn't matter the help defender is staying close. So what about Howard? Just getting owned by Ratliff and Chandler in today's playoff game, right?
This whole thread just makes me miss YAO!!!! I am gonna wear my Yao jersey tomorrow and chant YAO YAO YAO YAO YAO YAO YAO YAO YAY all day long!
I think every player under contract is owned by the Rockets, not to mention all of the coaches as well.
