Because, he isnt all that... Hes good, but not as good as he is shown to be... If people say that KG OR KOBE is overrated, no doubt he should be on this list...
I am not saying they aren't good.. just overrated. Karl Malone is overrated. It is admirable that he works hard and improves in every facade of the game since he was a rookie, but he is still overrated. He is so overrated that people don't realize how good sloan as a coach is until Karl left. I think karl getting more credits than he deserves. Scottie Pippen is overrated too because he gets to play with Michael during his prime. IT does make a big different. Every team defense obviously is key on MJ... so there is much more opportunity for scottie to do his thing. I do admit he did have one really good season without michael.. but that's not enough to justify the praises scottie used to get.
well i really hate to argue for Karla and pip but lets be honest, you can't say 2 future HOFers are overrated. i won't even attempt to defend Karla but i'll defend Pippen. Scottie used to put the lock down on the opponents' best player. Almost every defensive assignment was always on the other teams' best player and for good reason. He's not an offensive force but he didn't need to be. Avg around 17 points behind MJ is still good enough. His stat sheets might not blow away a lot of people, but it was his ability to play in the triangle, defend like a mo fo, and be probly the best SIDEKICK in NBA history makes him not overrated. No one thinks he's a Hall of Famer because he's an offensive force like MJ or Kobe or Mcgrady. It's a Hall of Famer because he did finished things that MJ couldn't do at times...or...just be a sidekick. I hate Pippen as much as any Rockets fan but the man was good.
Pippen did lead the Bulls to 55 wins with only Horace Grant as a half-decent teammate in the 93-94 season. He also came very close to leading them to the Finals against us.
Steve Francis, as a PointGuard. One heck of a scorer and rebounder out of his position, but totally clueless about his job description as team's playmaker. Not to mention the lack of defense as an elite player.
Ben Wallace. I always suspect that if you put Kelvin Cato on a eastern conference team you would get similiar stats.
to add how did this guy get defensive player of the year before. He just blocks shots, not like he can shut someone down like artest or bowen.
First has Kobe ever lead his team to a finals? NO, he's Robin to Shaq's Batman. Kobe throws up some airballs and tries way to hard to make stuff happen at the games and he's not bad at it. But sometimes he makes wrong decisions
Amare Stoudemire ... no explanation needed. And now the controversial picks: Aging out-of-shape Shaq. He's losing the dominance he used to have and isn't really the best player in the league anymore like 9 out of 10 commentators will claim. Tracy McGrady - A very talented player, but a "superstar" should be able to lead his team to win more than 21 games in the Leastern conference.
I hate Malone. But he's not overrated. In fact, I've come to appreciate more of his talent (NOT his person) after he came to the Lakers. His passing skill is especially surprising to me.
IMO, Shaq is the most overlooked overrated player. If the guy was 6 inches shorter and 100 lbs. lighter, he wouldn't even be in the NBA. Period.
Mike Bibby, nice complimentary player, but he benefits from the system. He plays well in the system but for people to say he's better than Francis because his team has gone further isn't fair. Bibby has never been asked to carry a team. Elton Brand. He gets good numbers, but he doesn't affect his team's overall success, period. Nowitzki. Great offensive player, but not a franchise player because he does nothing else.
You can probably say this about more than half of all NBA players. Maybe if I were 6 inches taller and 100 lbs. heavier, I'd be in the NBA too.
Decent enough to be traded for Jason Williams, who, at the time, was considered a selfish, disruptive lower-tier starting point guard(9 ppg, 5 apg, 40.7% FG shooting in his last year with Sacramento).
Well, back in 2001, Memphis traded for Jason Williams in part because they thought that he would put asses in the seats; Bibby's never had the kind of "Sportscenter" appeal that Jason Williams had early in his career. I think that Bibby was over-rated when he played for the Grizzlies, what with that whole "good numbers on bad teams" paradigm; I don't think that he's over-rated any longer, but I freely admit to bias with regard to the matter.
I actually think he is slightly overrated now. I thought he was rated pretty appropriately when he played for the Grizzlies. He had Shareef syndrome. I don't think he is a bad player, just slightly overrated. I don't see his being as successful in an offense less suited to his strengths.
