I am having trouble upgrading from Outlook Express 6.0 to Outlook 2002.

I have 3 pop3 accounts all of which I leave the messages on the server. I also have a bunch of rules set up in Outlook Express sending different emails to a bunch of different folders. I would like to move all of my email and rules to Outlook 2002.

Have any of you guys done this or know how.

I tried to import all of my messages from Outlook Express and that worked but then when I send/recieve in Outlook it downloads all of the messages anyway, even though they are already there.

Any sugestions? (note telling me to stay with Outlook Express is not helpful)

    Thanks in advance.

First, you are not talking about 3 POP3s on our server are you? Also, try to troubleshoot this by installing Outlook 2002 and only setting up a profile to losttexan. So, try uninstalling and starting over. That way I can help you better. If we can get that to work, then you can turn on your other profiles for your other 2 POP3 servers to see if they have a problem. NOTE: they must all support UIDL...which remember, we didn't at first.

Why is this a problem? Why did you have to "Import" mail that was left on the servers? Seems like all you have to do is set up your "rules" for routing mail to folders. Just let it d/l all the mail from the server when you install it...right?? (I guess maybe you could have some really old mail that never got saved at your current POP3 server, which you are carrying around from one mail client to the next...if so, time to purge, i say.)

btw: the UIDL command (which is "leaving mail on servers") is really only looking for mail that is new, that your client has never downloaded before. You server mailbox is full of a bunch of messages, and the server gives a "unique ID" to each. The UIDL put out by your client requests the server to send the client a "unique ID listing" for all messages in your maildrop, including ones you have already d/l-ed and "left on server" (that is, all mail that you have retrieved, but not deleted, yet.)

Clients will keep a list of a unique IDs that they haven't deleted. In Outlook Express, this file is called:

    POP3UIDL.DBX

Your problem is probably due to Outlook 2002 not using the Outlook Express list of unique IDs database file.

But I ask again, why does that matter? Just install the new mail client and d/l all messages left on the server. Once you do that, the client will create its UIDL listing of everything to leave on the server.

Is this problem repeating??? Is it d/l-ing your same mail on every retrieve?

    Try this:

You need to save these files:

    Outbox.dbx
    cleanup.log
    Deleted Items.dbx
    Drafts.dbx
    Folders.dbx
    Inbox.dbx
    Offline.dbx
    Pop3uidl.dbx
    Sent Items.dbx

In XPs Outlook, go to Tools Options, click the Maintenance tab, then the Store Folder button and browse to the directory you placed the files in.
