This is a good move, but it should've happened weeks ago.

Mack is saying all the right things but I see through him like a cheap suit.

I knew going into the season coaching was a big problem, and it still is, but what is sorely lacking in this program is an identity, a swagger, an attitude of we will beat you and enforce our will every saturday.

Look at OU and Miami, the two top college football programs the last 5 or so years. OU has a swagger from Stoops and his coaching staff. At Miami, the players have their own swagger. Some call it cockiness, arrogance, etc, but I call it passion, and its what the heart and soul of football is all about.

Just look at the UT-OU pre game press conference. Bob Stoops was so cocky and confident in his guys that he practically dismissed Texas in his time on set. While UT's Marcus Tubbs said all the political things like "OU is a great team, we'll have to play really well to beat them."

I should have spotted this earlier but Texas has no confidence in themselves, nor the coaching they need to help instill that confidence. No coaching and no confidence=no championship. Bottom line.

Even in big games Mack has won, UT has never imposed its will on its opponent and that comes down to a lack of coaching and a lack of identity and swagger/confidence in themselves.

Roy Williams, one of the best talents I have ever seen at college football was on the Zone in Austin before Saturday's game, and was asked his ideal play. He talked about a perfectly run WR screen for christ sakes. Our top talent and playmaker excited over a play like that, when he should be demanding we use him deep down the field.

That's what I mean about attitude, about swagger, our players may act tough on the outside, as Pearson showed Saturday but in reality they don't have that inner confidence/swagger that OU has and that is why they are staring at 4 straight losses to their arch rival.

I know it might seem like there are many problems at UT. There are, I know. But its my belief, especially in such an emotionally charged sport as football, the foundation for any great team is confidence in themselves and a swagger associated with that confidence.

It's about believing you will win, not that you can win. Texas doesn't believe that right now. And I don't think they ever will with such a political and father figure type head coach in Mack Brown.

As much as I find Stoops to be a pure jackass, his arrogance fuels inner confidence in his team and guess what, they play like they know they are going to win.

Texas needs to instill this attitude as quickly as possible if they have any desire of winning big 12 championships or national titles any time soon.

Because the bottom line is football at its roots is pure emotion and confidence in one's ability to succeed every play. OU has it. Miami has it.

Texas needs to find it in a hurry.
