If we took all expectations about personal discipline out of the school environmenet, what would happen to the schools?
I don't know where you went to school but I was given physical repemands by my PE teacher on multiple ocassions. But maybe I should be upset
even though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death, i am not alone..for You are with me. i think we're overestimating man...and underestimating God. the God I know isn't easily removed from those who are faithful to Him.
Agreed, but what about the institution and it's methods and traditions? For example, the institution's language is restricted.
When I was in high school (in the 1980s), they were still allowed to give "pops," but those days are long gone. Still, physical punishment should be left up to the parents.
i think Christians and the church should be spending their energies elsewhere. like actually seeking to live out the call that Christ made. this tireless bickering over this stuff is useless. we're not being immensely persecuted in this country...i can still go to church and worship freely. my son can still say a prayer to thank God before lunch at a public school. i still say prayers for my clients while i'm in county court facilities. and, ulitmately, if i'm called to suffer for my faith, i'll count myself as fortunate. this has never been a Christian nation in the way I understand Christianity. it never has. parroting words before class doesn't change that. the equation of the flag with the cross seriously diminishes the cross, in my view. our country is a human institution. those institutions rise and fall. God is alpha and omega.
Did you know that today is Beethoven's birthday? How about the fact that he was so obsessed with composing in his later years that his landlord complained (after B's death) that he had written music compositions all over the walls? He also apparently liked macaroni and cheese (but it would be different than the kind we eat). Did I do well?
quite well...yes!!! there are a TON of things you know that I have no clue about!! you've forgotten more about most than I'll ever know!
You are just being silly. I am sure there is plenty you know about that I don't. How to cheat your clients, for example. Boooo!
I'm Christian. I think children everywhere would greatly benefit by having Christianity and its values taught to them in school. But the fact of the matter is... The United States of America has no official religion. We are a nation of many different religions. And if I want to live here, that means I must be tolerant of other people's beliefs and not force them to believe in the same things I do. Maybe it's what makes us great. Maybe it's our downfall. Doesn't matter - it ain't gonna change. There are countries which are officially Christian. Here are a few of them: Argentina, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Denmark, El Salvador, Finland, Greece, Holy See, Iceland, Malta, Monaco, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, Samoa, United Kingdom, Vanuatu. For anyone who preaches that we should have religion in schools, I suggest to you that, if it's so important to you, move to one of the above listed countries. Until then, STFU. -- droxford
I fell asleep and didn't study a lick for my communication theory final last week, but made a C on it. Who says God isn't allowed in school.
I get aggravated sometimes when I hear other Christians get all preachy about God in schools. -- droxford
A man was charged with having sex with a goat. The man didn't have enough money to hire the best lawyer in town, so he hired another lawyer who was famous for picking a sympathetic jury. During the trial, the next door neighbor was recounting how she saw her neighbor having relations with the goat under the light of a full moon. Se recounted that when the man had finished, the goat turned around and gave the man a big kiss right on the mouth. At this testimony, the man and his lawyer turned to look at the jury to see their reaction. Just at that moment, one of the jurors turned to one of the other jurors and said, "You know, a good goat will do that."

Hey, I have an idea. Let's all copy and paste the US Constitution and start circulating it to all of our friends and family via email. In no time at all it will be reviled as spam and we can all just discount it! Who's in?
Hey, I have a better idea. Maybe you can start posting threads where your arguments use logic (what a concept!), instead of threads where the entire argument is "these things happened, and I'm going to link them via correlation instead of causation!"
