luther head is not a good enough shooter to have the defense respect him, he has 10 feet of space, he should be shooting 60%+; do you think the other teams would give steve kerr 10 feet to shoot wide open shots. He is a good energy player off the bench, but his shooting percentage is misleading to say the least.

You are a professional first round pick, and you ought to be able to hit a very high percentage of wide open 3`s, your considered a good shooter when you make the other team stop double-teaming yao or tracy b/c it is a layup to give this shooting guard 10 feet of open space, just daring the player to shoot wide open 3`s says it all! LH isn`t the type of consistent shooter that can hit open shots like a miller of memphis, were miller can hit 5 shots in a row throughout the entire season, which stretches the defense. The defense never had to play honest on luther head all year long, and with yao being the focus of this team in the future, we need players that compliment yao, not clog the lane up b/c they overpenetrate b/c they don`t have confidence to shoot the wide open jump shot! Statistics don`t take into account the number of wide open looks that a player like lh routinely gets on this team! Reggie miller would go for 60 if they played him that way!!

Has anyone in the nba ever shot 60%+ from 3 point range? We always talk about all the wide open shots that people get from the double teams of yao and tmac, but realistically what could we expect our perimeter shooters to shoot? probably somewhere between 38% - 42%.

There are other players out there who demand a double/triple team but you don't see anyone shooting anywhere near 60%. Even the 3 point threats who played with Shaq in his orlando years, people like dennis scott, shot 42.6 in his best year on the magic.

Bruce bowen is a pretty good shooter in this league but people are still going to double team tim duncan or help off of him to stop parker's penetration. Having a proven shooter really doesn't prevent, it just makes the other team pay, maybe put a little doubt in their minds.

I don't necessarily think that there is anything misleading about his shooting percentage, that's about as objective as you can get. Both tmac and yao were out plenty this season which means that he was playing on a one superstar team, i would suggest that he got no more open shots than any other 3 point specialists in the league.

Luther head is no reggie, i doubt that anyone expects him to ever get to that point anyways. This is a 24th pick after all, if we can get a solid starter out of this he's overachieving. If we can get a younger david wesley from luther head, that would be perfect in my opinion.

I agree also that it would be nicer if head was taller, but i'd take quickness over an inch or two of height. How many SGs out there are post-up guards and how many think that they can take you off the dribble? If you going up against pierce or kobe, you'll have to adjust anyways. Best case scenario you put tmac on one of those guys and bother them with his length and bogans on them when you need to give tmac a breather.

Ability to contain the penetration might be more important than the ability to contest a shot on against a bigger post up guard. the penetration disrupts the offense more and creates wide open shots for the opposing team. this is where the rockets tend to get killed from beyond the arc cause someone like wesley has no chance to stay with the quicker guards he is up against, forcing the defense to collapse and the kickout oppurtunity.

The bigger guard operating in the post is a dangerous weapon of course but may be easier to design defenses around. A structured defense with the option of help from the weak side would do better in this case then in the case where the guard breaks down the perimeter and reacts to how the defense reacts.
