you have to remember that india and the us have had fairly rocky relations. india is stauncly against the war in iraq and even now resents US support for pakistan. india is one of the main countries that founded the non-aligned movement. that being said obviously pointing guns is a bit over the top. but the historical context is vital.
given that turban wearing sikhs make up a large portion of the indian army, if the reverse happened, i'm sure the US army would have mistaken them for taliban/al queda/arabs. looking the way they do with turbans and all, theres no way their movement wouldnt have been restricted and i'm certain that automatic weapons would have been pointed at them. anyway, are you even sure that they are in india?
I don't think they would have mistaken them for taliban or anything since their would have been communication from the plane saying they needed to land. As for Sri Lanka or India I will check again with my brother. He said India initially but it was shortly after he heard from his son, so who knows. I agree there would have been some restrictions on movement, of course. I don't know that it would have been confined to inside a room.
I doubt that - I'm sure they would be confined to their quarters on the airfield and under some form of guard. NO way the US, INS, Homeland Security, whoever lets them just run around.
Pointing them maybe not but if an Indian, or Sri Lankan, military transport had made an emergency landing at a US base they certainly would've put them under armed guard and confined them. In a situation like that there's no way they could do checks on who is on that plane in time to risk having them wander freely, take pictures or even just get a long good look at the base.
Hell, I'll land a plane over there for good Indian food, and I don't even know how to fly an airplane!
