I think the main thing about our front court is that it will improve... and improve drastically.

OF COURSE, Cato has been working out all summer, and not only will he be more fit for all the running and banging, his fundamentals will be better too. I think he MUST HAVE worked on his catching skills over the summer, and we might even expect to see a consistent 15 footer from him.

MO Taylor really adds to our post up game, arguably one of the weakest parts to our front court. NOw, Taylor doesnt really bring rebounding and defense, but at least he solves the post up problem. And still, Taylor is big and pretty athletic... therefore he has the ability to be a decent defender and an exceptional rebounder. I think the change of scenery will reallllly change his attitude. And he already has chemistry with Francis + Mobley... always a plus.

Kenny Thomas is probably gonna be one of the best big men off the bench soon. He has the potential to start... therefore, imagine how good he is off the BENCH. He's got a ton of offense, hopefully an improved 3 point shot, and he can rebound too.

Hakeem, iF HEALTHY, can be a good fit in that he can occasionally post up and swack the 15-18 footer also.

Collier wont have a big impact this year, but he has a nice foundation for improvement.

Langhi and Wiz arent the best small forwards, true. But Langhi is still a rookie with nice size, skills, and instinct for the game. Wiz, if he's hot, will be able to help in SOME way.

So, ON the contrary, I think our rebounding, blocking, scoring, and passing will improve this year... but only on the basis of the improvement of our players.

rebounding is the easiest thing to do in basketball.look at rodman,he did`nt have much of a body, but knew how to get position and timed his jump and tips perfect.the rockets timeing & position could have been from players not the other players and when or not they were going to shoot,or when they are not,you the little things that you know your dog is going to shoot the rock so i gotta clean the glass if he can`t close the deal!

I wouldn't be so quick to criticise our frontcourt just yet.. with the proper motivation Mo could turn out to be a surprise and we have Kenny T. the man that ESPN said could become a 10+ rbs per game if given the time and from what we saw last yr. I will agree w/it. We have an excellent pt. guard that can get rbs and if Cato has re-dedicated himself this offseason then we are in for an improvement on the rbd area.

I am not gonna make excuses for any of our players as they are professionals and are making more money than any of us will see in our lifetime so to say that because you are on a loosing team (Clips) brings you down is bullshevik ! but what I can say is that playing for such a team will eventually affect you in one way or another, specially if you are not mentally strong, some people can cope w/negative situations much better then others and it is possible that Mo is not as strong mentally as others but if that held true w/the Clips it should hold true w/the rox, if the rox start to win and he notices the organization is totally different then our environment itself should help him out wish I HOPE will make him into a much better player then what we got to see when he was w/the Clipps ... I am looking foward to him leaving the Clips ghost behind him and move foward and make a GOOD name for himself... in other words, major improvement in all aspects of his game including rebounding !

As far as Cato goes I can only say one thing, he better come ready this season, he no longer has the excuse of "I wasn't ready because I wasn't getting many minutes in Portland" , comming into this season he knows that the minutes will be there and he knows what the team expects from him, he now knows the system so therefore many of those excuses should no longer be valid, having a yr like he did last yr (arguing, foul prone, not knowing when the ball was comming his way, not enough hussle etc.. etc..) should be a thing of the past, his conditioning should be much better, his skills more tuned up and his ability to control himself better adjusted so he won't hurt the team.

Hakeem, if we can only get half the Hakeem we know we be in much better shape then last yr. that is how good this guy has been!

Now this is my opinion. I say people should stop putting the Rockets down. It is stupid to start complaining with what we have. All teams cannot be great at all positions. Even this years dream team has weaknesses with rebounding. The Lakers only had Shaq as a defensive force (I don't consider AC Green a defensive player even though that's what they say) in their front court and he was their only real rebounding frontcourt player, they win a championship. The Suns didn't have any rebounding in their frontcourt during the play-offs. They advance to the second round, Sacromento has a good rebounding, scoring, defensive frontcourt and loose in the first round. And just to add to my arguement I'll add these stats and I didn't include Barkley and Gray to make an even amount of players.

    LAKERS FRONT COURT: APG=11.3, RPG=34.5, BPG=5.42, PPG=66.1
    ROCKETS FRONT COURT: APG=7.9, RPG=34.7, BPG=5.55, PPG=56.7

Now the Lakers may have beaten the Rockets in points and assists but remember the Lakers had the MVP. Now if you add our back court why do we need a better frontcourt? You need alot more studying to do Smegg!

I think Cato will lead the NBA in blocks next year because he always has good timing on a shot he knows when to jump and block the opponents shot. Hakeem Olajuwon is still solid and plays great D. Imagine having Cato and Olajuwon in the game at the same time in a game. That is an intimidating frontcourt. Maurice is a good scoring. Kenny Thomas was our best rebounder last year. Thomas is very versatile. He can post up, plays great D, he shoots well from outside, he rebounds and he has good footwork. If Carlos Rogers is healthy then he can be a valuable asset off the bench. Remember last year when he was the energy guy off the bench. He had a couple of impressive games(16points 8reb 4asst against LAL and 28 points against Utah)

How'd you get those, MM? Are they just the sum of our Rockets' averages or did you take into account the number of games each player played, add them up, and then divide the total by 82

everyone underestimates Mo T he did average 6 boards a game and if he tries this year he could become at the least average 15 points and 10 rebs.

SmeggySmeg -- Miggidy Markell is in dream land? You seem to be the one that thinks a bunch of rookies and first-year starters will never improve (see your comment -- "being content with what we got should win us the title"). What is your criteria for a player proving himself? You give him one year of starting, and then look for someone else? Looks like you're the one who's in dreamland.

I added all their averages together.......you can't make it out to 82 games for everyone cause it would come out the same.

Actually Freak I was referring to MM comment about supporters not being able to criticise the team they follow, which is part of being a fan just as getting excited when they win. Also i understand and agree with you on the first year players thing, i just think we could ave got better players to fill the needs with had (muscle and boards)

Also how can you be content unless you win a title this competitive professional sports we are talking about, winning the title is the pinnacle are we just had a 30 win season.

There you go again........we don't need to make heaps of moves to improve our team. They are all young and are not near their peaks at all. I agree that our front court wasn't the best last year but we have "Wizard 8 year veteran learning a new style of offense, Cato first year of real Ball and KT a rookie. Now with what I saw of these three at the end of last year and even through-out the year was they had flashes of what they are CAPABLE of doing for this team. I remember Mutombo when he was just a dunker like Cato, he may not be a great shooter now but he is a defensive force. I see this in Cato. KT reminds me of Barkley in his early years. He has got a quick first step which helps him over come his size miss match. He also has shown what he can do i.e. against the Blazers guarded by Rasheed and Grant. I can see him as being one of the top rebounders of the league. And Wizard is like Eddie Johnson and Clyde Drexler in one. Maybe not as talented as Clyde or as quick but he can be very much like him at times with his inside shooting.
Carlos is a quality player off the bench, I feel sorry for this guy. He deserves more PT cause he does have alot of talent but he always is put behind some one. I always thought he could be a 13/9 man with PT. Dream can do anything so I don't need to go any further on that. Langhi may well be a very valuable spark off the bench when the Rockets go through a scoring drought. Well that is my opinion but Smegg I ain't critizising your right to say stuff about my team but I don't like it when a player puts in 100% and gets his game goin and still gets critizised.
