First, Deron Williams will eat Battier's lunch if they switch him over. Don't complain thinking you know more than Adelman. Van Gundy is one of the finest defensive minds to ever coach an NBA game and didn't make that "adjustment" either. Further...can we stop with the Mike Miller Pipe Dream? Please? He's not coming to Houston. If the Grizz wanted to move him, they'd have done it at the trade deadline. What I find really baffling about all the Mike Miller Dreamcasting is that the Rockets (other than the stars) have absolutely NOTHING the Grizz want/need. Spare me the BJax expiring. Do you really think that would be the best offer MEM could get for Miller? The only reasonable Dreamcast is Battier for Miller. Doubt they are that dumb. Artest? For what? C'mon folks...don't make the summer any longer than it's going to be. The Kings have no use for BJax. None. They finished their (injury riddled) season really strong and can easily be under that cap IN THE 2009 summer with or without BJax or Artest. For the 3 dozenth time...Battier (other than the stars) is their only tradeable commodity and IIRC Landry will eat up part of the MLE. So will Gerald Green if you bring him back and his agent is a wuss if he doesn't get Gerald some guarantees. Sorry to be a bummer...but the Rockets are between a rock and a hard place IMHO.
HEALTH......and... An NBA quality PG that can shoot 43% or better, and an attacking swingman. I would go hard at Corey Magette for one....and then see what happens for the others... And I would be willing to look at what you could get for Battier...if you can get an Artest or a Mike Miller. DD
Battier + Landry/Brooks +Novak/Head, the latter for additional salary needs mainly and/or a pick might yield a 3rd "star". Battier plus change won't get the job done.
DaDa - I respect your opinion enough to know that was a joke. You KNOW why they traded Gasol. Gasol makes nearly TWICE what Miller makes. When Brown expires, MEM will be nearly $13m under the cap. They don't need more cap space and they DON'T need another "on my last legs PG" like Damon Stoudamire.
If.......we are going to trade Battier, we have to go after Marion. Package Battier, BJax, Luther, Francis, Woods, and a re-signed Carl Landry to Miami for Marion and Blount. We take back salary, give them expirings and a couple nice pieces in Battier and Landry. Now our starting 5 looks like: McGrady Marion Yao Scola Brooks with our bench being: Rafer (1st round draft pick, hopefully Rush) Novak Raef (after he gets bought out at the deadline) Blount Many variations of this trade too, but the main components are Battier for Marion. I think if we did a deal like this that our starting 5 is as good as anybody. And Marion wants to come back West and punk Phoenix so we got that working in our favor. I'd give up Shane for a player like Marion. Give Marion 4 years/$40 million extension.
Nice spot on analysis. Adelman & Morey both realize that they have a team that doesn't quite match up with others in the West. They also know what type of players they need to find in order to correct this problem. The only question left is who they'll go after and how long it will take keeping in mind that while they are struggling to improve, the competition will be doing exactly the same thing.
Yes! The Rockets need a reliable third scorer? Can Mike Miller be that guy? Also, a backup center or at least someone over 6'9''.
Those are all fine ideas but with one obvious flaw-- hope. ... I have a feeling that, as long as Mcgrady and Yao Ming remain on the roster, and are counted on as playing significant roles to the Houston Rockets organization, come playoff time, the Rockets will fail. Unless, of coarse, they could somehow re-write the rules to have the playoffs before the season begins. (note the sarcasm)
I've read numerous articles about the Grizzlies' financial situation. They wanna dump salary and rebuild around Rudy Gay. That's why they gave away Pau Gasol and it's why they'll likely do the same with Miller. Hell, Miller would've already been traded at midseason if the entire league wasn't piling on their GM for giving away an All-Star big man to the Fakers the way he did. Maybe the Grizz would want young talent in exchange for Miller. But I'm willing to bet they'd be just as happy settling for expiring contracts. He has 2 more years on his deal. The contracts the Rockets have can clear that salary off the books in '09, a year early. Now Artest for expiring deals is a pipe dream. I agree with that. The Kings will want talent in return. We'd have to give away at least Battier and Brooks to have any shot at the guy. Maybe even Landry. I'm ok with giving up Brooks in an Artest package provided we have a reliable backup to Rafer already acquired. The Nets won't give up Diop. Or Harris. They'll rebuild around those two and their draft pick. And of course pray that LeBron signs with them when they move to Brooklyn.
T-Mac wants out of Houston and he wants to show the Haters what the issue is and to the team he wants to play for by giving back the real issue. Dont cross out T-Mac to the Knicks for Marbury and #5 pick (Bayless)
I would like to sign up Green for the summer program, but you can't go into next season planning for him to blossom into a contributor on a team with championship hopes.
I'm sorry but with Yao and Rafer healthy right now it would be a different story... Our team is a championship contender for 100% sure, its just a shame that they can't stay healthy so the dream could be realized. All we can do as fans is hope for health for the Big Guy and for Tmac (and the rest of the Rockets for that matter), because, aside from a few role players, no one is going anywhere and IMO, you can take that to the bank.
T-Mac wants out of Houston be prepared. Morey has rebuilding on his mind and taking back a loaded contract and a #3-5 pick is his plan. Houston probably wont even make the playoffs next season so be prepared. By the the time contract expires we have cap space and a pick who could be a steal. From my understanding Marbs has been baned from the Knicks and so has Thomas and it has got to this point.
What are you even talk about? 1. Where have you gotten this idea that T-Mac wants out of Houston? 2. Where are you getting this insight into the mind of Morey from? 3. Everybody knows the Knicks are done with Marbury and Thomas, but what the hell does that have to do with us? I saw your other bold claim that we were going to trade T-Mac for D-Wade, and it seemed like sheer wild speculation. Nonetheless, you like to talk as if you have some inside information. If you do have insider info, then by all means tell us you have sources. I won't even ask who they are. However, I feel like your source can't be inside management. I would expect the friends of people in management would at least be relatively literate.
