mduke and the dirt-burglars have every reason to be confident. They have our number. But, I just get a feeling UT will pull this one out.

ou already has a built in excuse, but Hybl made some nice throws against Bama. Of course, he also couldn't beat out Quincy Carter at UGa.

Thinking your god-team will hold Texas to 3 points is completely ridiculous. And no, not everything everybody does is ridiculous. Thats only the case when I catch your dumbass (plural) in a ridiculous statement.

well if you couldn't tell, it's a thing called sarcasm. And if you can also tell, which I doubt you can figure it out, everyone in chat feels this same way about you.

Heisman, HAH! Don't you have to be a great quarterback to win that? Until he proves it, which is doubtful, he is nowhere NEAR a Heisman candidate. If i didn't know better, I'd think you're Chrissy himself.

And until he proves himself, he is not better than every player on OU, he's not even the best player on UT.

Gr8-1: Thank You. Finally a UT fan who understands who deserves respect. If UT wins, of course you can talk all this crap you guys are talking, but until then.......

I couldn't tell its sarcasm? What are you insane? I don't know what you mistake me as, maybe deve, or something. Judging a college team from past years is just very, very shortsited. Usually, a team takes 2-3 years to replace the key players needed to win. OU will not do **** at a national championship level until they successfully replace Heupel, Calmus, and Williams. Texas almost has the same offense, with a good defense to go along with it. Texas is obviously the better team right now. Just admit it.

"everyone in chat feels this same way about you."

Simms has thrown more touchdowns than any quarterback in UT history. For the first time in 20 years, he led a Texas team to a 10 win season. He crushed a good CU team in Austin with 250 yards, 3 touchdowns, no picks, and brilliant decision making. He actually had a pretty good game against OU, considering he had no running game at all and was playing one of the best defenses in college football history. The fact that he was able to throw for about 200 yards and even move the ball at all under those circumstances proves him to be more than Sooner fans think.

Two of those interceptions were flukes in the OU game... one came on the Roy Williams blitz (missed block), and another came immediately afterwards when Simms just had to heave it downfield and hope for the best. For someone who's so terrible, you have to wonder how he won 10 games, something his teammate Major Applewhite (who is respected by most Sooners) never did. Truthfully, I think the knock on Simms is entirely wrong. If not for his name, he'd be thought of as one of the better QB's in the country; it's because of his name that he is held to unreachable standards.

I know OU deserves respect, but it's not this team. It's the team with Roy Williams, Rocky Calmus, etc. It's a totally different team now, and to use last year or two years ago is a reference for which is better now is just silly. All that matters now is what's happening this season, and OU looked very, very challenged and physically worn down at home by a mediocre Alabama team that almost lost to Middle Tennessee St. the week before.

You can only live on reputation to a certain point, before you have to actually play. All offseason I've heard about how this vaunted OU defense was going to not miss a beat after Roy Williams and Calmus and others left. Now its time to put up or shut up, and right now, they don't look very good. I'm sorry, but I can't respect OU's chances against Texas because of "last year" because it's a totally different team. Also, duke, I don't think you need to be telling Texas fans who is and isn't the best players on our team.... we know how objective OU fans are when it comes to Chris.

Also, criticizing NYK's rep is just a cheap personal shot to avoid replying to some of the points he's making. The fact is, as a Sooner fan, you might not be mr. objectivity when it comes to this. (gasp) I'm not saying that I am either, but nyk isn't biased toward either team, so his opinions do carry some merit...

I was gonna sorta stay out of this thread because I find it very amusing, to say the least. And I would like to say that I think the world of you, duke. So, don't take this post personally, okay?

As a Miami fan, I really have no vested interest in who wins the Texas-OU game. I have feelings about both schools. Personally, I think that Mack Brown can't win a big game and that is something that has to be proven to me. I also feel that OU benefited greatly from the BCS 2 years ago in playing FSU instead of Miami for the NC....a Miami team that has won 25 games in a row. So, both sides can flame me for what I said if they want, but I say this to prove the point that I am not biased towards either side.

Now, with that out of the way, duke, you are dreaming if you think OU is going to be in the NC game with Nate Hybl leading the way. This just in, but he sucks. I'm sorry, but it is true. Both Cat and Knicks bring up valid points about OU. Yes, you are correct in that OU has had Texas's number and deserves respect from the Longhorn fans; however, saying ridiculous things like that Texas won't score 3 points on that vaunted OU defense that was riddled by a mediocre (yes they are mediocre...they will be lucky to win 6 games this season) Alabama team is something that smacks more of being an OU homer...it reeks of pure lunacy.

Now, maybe Cat is going overboard in saying that Texas will rout OU, but I do agree with him that Texas is the better team. Yet, that doesn't necessarily mean anything. But living in the past can only get you so far, duke. From 1995 to 2000, Miami lost every time to both FSU and Virginia Tech under Butch Davis. I'm sure FSU and Tech fans were saying in 2001 that there would be no way in hell for Miami to win against their teams because their teams had the Canes number. Well, they were wrong and have been for the last 2 seasons.

So, while it is great that you are confident and everything, you do have to admit that Texas has a better than average chance of beating the Sooners.

    Nice post.

BTW, duke, Nate Hybl himself has been dropping by the chat in the last few days... he isn't exactly overflowing with confidence! :D

First of all, I respect OU. That said, Mduke, you have got to realize you don't have as good a defense if you lose your best player in Roy Williams and a leader like Calmus.

Also, don't even talk about cockiness with me. You are acting just as cocky in this thread, and it's not sarcasm.

Plus, it's a good rivalry of two top 5 teams, you better bet we have the right to be cocky about our school winning. Btw, I dont want to hear how we didn't deserve that South crown either or the top 5 finish. We played you to a draw, beat Colorado and everyone else we had too, you dont deserve a BCS bid if you lose to Ok State, sorry, and the top 5 was really watered down. We were on par with NU, CU, UO at least in my opinion.

As far as the o line goes, am I concerned, yes. But if you think OU has outplayed UT this year you must be dreaming. You were ahead THREE-0 over one of the worst D1 football teams ever in Tulsa. So that offense which was horrid last year is not much if any better.

And Alabama almost lost to Middle Tennessee State, you guys should've murdered them at home, and it took a shovel pass drive by Works to hold off a mediocre team at home.

We had UNT down 24-0 at half, so it was over early, yet I wouldv'e liked a better 2nd half. Although, Mack prob used his 2nd string O-Line.

Nate Hybl at QB? Are you kidding me? He couldnt beat out Carter, who sucks, at Georgia, so how good do you think he is. Also, white wasn't much better, he was just a cult hero because of a fluke option drive in the UT game last year.

Texas is the more talented team, and should win this ballgame. Will it be close, probably, but thats because its usually tough to break a losing streak vs a team.

If this game is won by OU then Stoops is just some crazy mastermind, but I don't see it happening.

I am trying to be as objective as possible but I have UT winning this year for reasons I listed above.

As did Nate Hybl last year for OU. And don't bring up Defenses, Texas had a pretty darn good one last year too.

Do not think that I am saying Simms sucks, it's the exact opposite. He is a top-tier qb in the Big 12, but him EVER being considered a Heisman candidate was crazy, don't you admit? That's like calling incoming freshman Tommy Grady a Heisman candidate.

Oh, I know we didn't deserve a BCS bid after that poor showing in the OSU game. And yes, you did deserve the South crown, but not because of how you played, your destiny was not even in your hands after RRS, right? And about being on par with those teams....I'd say both of our teams were a step below them at the end of the season.

Texas WILL be the favorite in the RRS, as it has been the last 2 years, but you know what? WHO CARES! It just looks that much better if we win, and doesn't look as bad if we lose.

Ok, I got to UT as well, and I'd prefer you wouldn't make predictions like that. I hope OU wins, but the game could easily be low-scoring because BOTH teams have good defenses. Our team is better on paper, but Davis has to have some nuts, and Mack better not get out-coached. Our team better win, because there isn't any excuse this year. We need to be focusing on UNC this year though, if we take them lightly it could be really bad.

That is highly impossible against Bob Stoops....although Mr. Stoops was outcoached last week. I'm not bashing Mack though, I think he is a top 10 coach at least........

tozai: you go to UT but want OU to win? Am I missing something here?;)

    Mduke,

UT outplayed CU both games last year. If Simms doesn't throw that 1st pick on a sure td to Scaife that game is not even close. Alas, he did and I get to sit here and say the better team lost.

NU? That team that Miami and Colorado demolished. I think we could've beat them

UO? Good team, but not overallly spectacular, CU's lack of team speed hurt them here and plus we had the revenge factor.

Thus, yes, we belonged in these 3 teams class.

the only team that you could be in the same class with is NU. CU and UO both were outstanding at the end of the year, and 2 of the top 3-4 in the nation at the end of last year. Just curious, since we beat you, where would you rank us last year? I'd say we had a slightly better year, except for 1 game.....(which was against the 2nd worst team in the South, but still....)

Hybl didn't win ten games. No matter who started, you know that Jason White won the game against Texas. Nate Hybl getting knocked out of a scoreless game in the first quarter does not count as a win. He didn't play or start in the next game, and he lost after coming in in relief against Nebraska. He lost against OSU. There's four games Nate Hybl did not win, and I know OU did not play 14 games last year. Thus, he did not win ten games.

Before you respond that the gap between 9 and 10 isn't huge, IMO it is. A 9 win team is usually middle of the pack... 10-16 in the year end rankings. 9 wins is a quality season, but the gap between the good and the very good/great is usually right around that 10 win mark. Very few teams have ten win seasons in a good conference without a very good quarterback leading the way. (in fact, I can't think of any right now, except for teams like Maryland from weak conferences)

    Duke,

CU was not better than us. We rolled them in Austin, then as I said if Simms doesn't miss Scaife on a sure td it was 14-0 and the rout was on. We beat ourselves.

UO-I cant prove, but they definitely weren't better talent wise and we played them to a draw in the Holiday Bowl a year before, so I think we could've won.

You guys deserved a top 5 spot as well, sans the OSU game because we played to a draw and you beat some other good teams.

No, the defense won the Texas game, regardless of who was at quarterback. Yes, Jason gave us a spark, but I still think we would've won with Nate..... Nate started 12 games last year, all but 1....he was 11-1 in his starts. 11 is more than 10. ;)

Think all you want, but there's no reasoning behind it. OU did nothing offensively except for the possession where White's option caught the defense by surprise.

Also, Nate started 11 games last year, not 12.

Sophomore Jason White was named OU's starting quarterback for this week's game versus Baylor by Head Coach Bob Stoops Monday.

    http://soonersports.ocsn.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/101501aab.html

This year's game is just as big, although this time White won't be watching. Instead, he will be making just his second start at quarterback when the second-ranked Sooners play No. 3 Nebraska on Saturday.

    http://soonersports.ocsn.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/102601aaa.html

There's your two, which limits Hybl to 11 starts. He lost one against OSU, and left in the first quarter of a scoreless game against Texas. Considering how the Texas game played out, and the fact that he left in the first quarter, it's ridiculous to give that to him as a win. It would be like giving the Big 12 Championship win to Chris (if Major had led them all the way back) just because he started.

Nate Hybl is not a 10 win quarterback.
