Forget the dunks, OT could grab a rebound out the air with one hand, his hands are so large. The thing about OT is that people say he was more like power forwards of that era. That's true in size and toughness, but OT's athleticism was ahead of his time. the only other powerforwards at that size who could run the floor were barkley and Malone, two others ahead of their time. The only thing that held OT back as far as putting up better point totals is that he could shoot.
1stRoundExit#1, talk about him then. if you don't like the OP comparing these two players, then go to another thread.
But I can't I don't live there. Anyways I can't tell if you were trying to insult me or w.e but I was being entirely serious b.c I don't really hear what you have to say when it comes to current rockets. I truly believe you are a lot more knowledgable than you let on and it would I would be interested in what you have to say about current rockets players as well as old ones.
I reallly like landry, that's no secret, but thorpe was a better ball player.. Thorpe in the pick and roll with kenny was a killer when dream went down. Thorpe didn't need defensive help against malone, markley, and guys like that. He was 6'10 long and strong. Thorpe would be a all star center/pf today.
Besides physical play on offense that can finish with a dunk, they're not that similar. Thorpe was a lean sturdy immovable rock like Chuck Hayes is, with length. Thorpe with his huge hands and muscle could pick up Hayes and baseball pass him across the court. Landry is like a shorter less explosive Shawn Kemp. That sounds like its a bad thing, its not. Just that Landry hasnt started a game yet. Landry does have more array of offensive moves compared to Thorpe. Thorpe might score 19 with his 1 right hand offense, Landry 20 in several ways. Thorpe would then guard Karl Malone to his season average, Landry might give up 40 to Malone without Hakeem's help *edit* didnt read the last post til now. yeah kinda like that. Rate that out over future years, that equals #1-3 pick in later drafts. Like an Andrew Bogut type #1.
carl has better offensive balance and better range. but ot, was a beast. he was strong as chuck hayes if not stronger and could run the court, block shots, and dunk. OT was the best true PF rocket of all time.
lol. I wouldn't call OT a point forward... unless you rename him Rodney McCray. About the best OT could do was dribble forward in a straight line with nobody around.
I remember when we first won our two championships But i was too young to remember the players and how good they were. But if Otis was that good and I think he was an all star the year we won our first championship how come the rockets traded him for an aging Clyde Drexler. I know it worked out for the better for us, but was there another reason besides Clyde was the better player that the Rockets made the trade?
