    seattle
    las vegas
    kansas city

although i'd like to see them set up a simple 4 team league internationally in

    london
    berlin
    paris
    rome

    maybe even moscow, athens, madrid.

imagine an nba europe campion, nba asia champion, and nba south america champion meeting an nba north america champion for a FINAL 4 world championship every year!!

In that same vein, Monterrey. Big, affluent city with a strong business presence, and closer to the US cities than Mexico City.

Austin seems like a logical choice, but it will never happen for two reasons.

    1. UT dominates the local sports scene. Don't think they wouldn't lobby against it.

    2. The Spurs count Austin as one of their fanbase areas.

no long-term data yet, but Oklahoma City fans show up in strong numbers for their new (and crappy) team, with a similar population size and "feel". Portland's a little bit bigger (though not growing nearly as fast), but not much, also has that 1 major professional sport feel, and also strongly supports their teams. Heck, San Antonio is kind of similar in that regards, too.

OTOH, Memphis and Sacramento are currently in the pits attendance wise. I agree it's probably too early for Albuquerque, but I think you are unfairly knocking it (and Memphis, too).

Mexico City just seems to make a lot of sense. I don't think it will ever happen - lot of complications obviously, but from a money/support/new market perspective, it seems like it should work.

I think they've already said that

    a) Vegas isn't gonna happen

    b) They're aiming outside the US next, though it's well down the road..

#%$^% the Spurs! There are no Spurs fans here. People on the street don't wear Spurs gear. I don't deny people will say they are Spurs fans, but they don't care until the playoffs. I see more Rockets and Lakers fans in Austin than the Spurs.

If Austin doesn't want an NBA team due to UT, Round Rock will take one.

I still think Vancouver could support an NBA team (even if they f'd up with the Grizzlies).

Vancouver has TONS of Asians (east Asian and south Asian), and we all know how much Asian love bball...

Ive heard David Stern in a few interviews saying the NBA did so much damage to the Vancouver market that they will regretfully not be able to go back in the medium to long term.

I think Vegas. You'd get a solid fan base from the city and I also think that would be topped off with tourists. Go to gamble, go to an NBA game, I think it would all work really well.

That seems to be the problem from the NBA's point of view though. None of the major sports leagues like the idea of tying their team up with gambling.

I believe Virginia Beach, VA area is the largest metro area without a major league franchise at all. They may have been passed recently though.

I'm not sure if a franchise would work there though.
