Vancouver has no use for Bryce Drew. They already have Bibby, Price, Rauf, Dickerson, Doug West and Damon Jones. His value is zilch to the Grizz. Don't embarrass this site by even hinting that our backups (even with Mo) will get us Stromile Swift. Puh..leezz Neither Mo nor Swift can be traded for awhile anyway.... As for swapping KT for Othella - why bother. There's not enough of a difference to warrant the effort. Vancouver also has a backlog at 4, so if you want to play GM, find a team that needs KT and has something the Grizz want - a strong 5 or a quality backup for Shareef at 3. And make sure we get a 1st round pick..... ------------------ Is it Preseason yet ??!! [This message has been edited by GATER (edited September 21, 2000).]
gater...why not? they need a good young power forward. they have abdur rahim at the 3, and dont even try to say that swift is a natural 4. sure he can play there but not effectively. mo is only 23 and has 4 years of experience, so he is a plus over swift. i dont think they will do it because mo only has a one year deal, but otherwise it would be possible
KT, in his rookie year, was clearly better than Othella Harrington when O was a rookie. I don't understand why there is even an argument about who is the better player. Othella gets abused on defense, while KT plays like a 6'10"+ guy, despite his actual height. KT can play facing the basket, which O does not do well. This two facts alone should decide the argument. The last thing the new Houston offense needs is a post player who won't pass the ball out. Othella would be a VERY bad pick up for the Rockets at this point (some other team will be able to use his low post offense) considering the money Othella will eventually command on the open market. ------------------ http://www.nba.com/theater/video/taylor_m_dunk_120299.mov
1. Compare Joe Smith's rookie year to Kevin Garnett's. 2. KT plays like he's undersized. While he's better than Othella defensively (he doesn't provide quite as big of a presence, or hustle for loose balls like the Houston version of O) 3. Othella can play with his back to the basket, while KT can not (as evidence by more than a 10% gap in FG%) 4. Othella will not be a free agent until 2005. Othella is clearly the better player right now. He is also clearly closer to a prototypical PF, and commands plenty on the free agent market. I don't think KT could command nearly as much. Othella is the better player, but I'll grant not a better fit due to lack of passing ability. Project Othella's numbers into KT's minutes. KT does not have as much of an edge as you think. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
Othella didn't play much as a rookie. KT was forced to, due to the injury to chuckster. So you can't compare their rookie stats. ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know. vj23k Let me make sure I understand you. The Grizz had the second overall pick in the draft and picked a 6'9" & 225# sophomore who had a tremendous block of Chris Mihm in the Texas-LSU NCAA Championships, and led the SEC blocks and is second only to Shaq in career blocks at LSU and avg'd 8.2 boards/game and who took 33 3-point attempts and made just 8 in 2 years of college and they are going to be playing Swift out of position as a PF? I don't think so....and neither does Othella. He clearly sees the handwriting on the wall. The Grizz DO have a backlog at PF and it starts with Stromile Swift. ------------------ GATER
Othella is a very good player and, from when I saw him play for Houston in his last year here, he shot the 15-foot jumper pretty well. Realistically, however, I really don't see Vancouver trading Big O unless they can get more than just Drew. At first glance, Vancouver has decent depth in all their positions, but they could theoretically put Drew in the rotation if they ate a contract (Can you say Brent Price?), but that's not likely. Even if they did, Drew would be fighting with Abdul-Rauf for minutes (depending on how good/bad he is now) If you first glance at Vancouver's current power lineup, you may think that they are pretty deep, but let's examine the players... Bryant Reeves - A promising young center at first, but he's been on the decline the last 2 years into mediocrity Issac Austin - a great player backing up Zo with Miami, but he's been a bust the last 2 years. Grant Long - a solid veteran 4, but he has a reputation for underachieving, and he's hardly got the numbers (or the shooting percentages) to be the long-term answer there Stromile Swift - an extremely exciting talent, but he's unproven and possibly undersized Othella Harrington - although he's unhappy, he was probably the most solid power player that the Grizzlies had last year. 10th in FG% in the NBA and 2nd in rebounding only to Reef, he's a hard worker and has improved his numbers every season (not exactly the type of player you'd just "trade away" for scraps) Tony Massenburg - as disappointed Rockets fans know, he's a solid but injury-prone player Antoine Carr - shouldn't he be retiring about now? I could very well be wrong about this..... I think that Drew would be a nice upgrade to Brent Price in the backcourt for backing up Dickerson and Bibby, but Vancouver would probably have to be pretty confident that one (or several) of their power guys (Parks, Long, Swift, TMass, Austin) are set for a good year otherwise I don't see Harrington going cheaply. (and by cheaply, I mean Drew and the exception) We'd probably have to throw in a KT or Collier because getting a poor man's Stromile Swift in Carlos Rogers would just seem dumb. Of course, this is all just my personal speculation What do you think? [This message has been edited by AxSomebody (edited September 24, 2000).]
