Hold on(if true)! Reds have reportedly inquired on Oswalt. http://sports.insidepulse.com/2010/07/28/new-suitor-for-roy-oswalt/
On the other hand, Jocketty says no trades likely and Oswalt is out of reach due to money. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/reds/20...hance-reds-wont-make-a-trade-before-deadline/
That's just bizarre. They have too much pitching already, if anything. They've got Harang and Arroyo as veterans, and then a whole army of young/cheap arms in Cueto, Volquez, Bailey, Leake, and Wood, along with Chapman in the minors. If I'm them, I focus any trades on building the offense rather than messing with that. Between those 8 guys, you can easily create a really good starting pitching staff.
According to McTaggart, Oswalt wants "ample" time to consider the trades and doesn't want to be approached a couple hours before the deadline. Exactly how much time do you need to OK a city/team? What the hell is there to think about? He probably speculates himself everyday about where he'd end up and where he'd like to go.
Ken Rosenthal confirming Reds inquired or made call on Oswalt. Ken_Rosenthal Don't get your hopes up, I assume he meant Cliff Lee, not Carlos
Well I guess the Astros better start approaching him on trades! Sorry, STL is not a fit Roy. Start thinking about LA or Philadelphia and in the back of your mind Chicago, Cincy, New York
Roy knows what the deal is so I imagine it's just a matter of okay Phillies agree to pick up the option or not before he can make up his mind.
Seriously it's almost like he's sabotaging his own request to be traded....requiring teams pick up his option, only wanting teams that are sure things and now this. Trades could go right up to the last minute of the deadline... he should already know by now what cities he wants to go to and have a pretty good idea who the Astros have been in close talks with... I love everything Roy has done for us, but if you really want to be traded, waive you're no trade clause and forget about the team picking up that option. Just about any place is gonna be better than Houston, at least any place that would want his services. And if you still don't make the playoffs/World Series next season, well then you're a FA and can go anywhere your heart desires. Stay here, and you're caught in purgatory for the remainder of your contract.
@ChiTribRogers: Scouts say #Astros Brett Myers is more likely to be traded that either teammate Roy Oswalt or #Cubs Ted Lilly, who he just outpitched.
Roy has been fun to watch all this time. My thinking is that he isn't breaking the Record, no way the Astros risk injury and botching a trade.
