it sounds (and has all along, really) like the phillies want oswalt pretty bad. i guess that's pretty good news.
If he REALLY wanted to, he could clear up all the confusion by just listing the teams he's open to and that his agent has talked with. Obviously, if he needs his option worked on, his agent has to already be addressing those issues with teams.

A couple of interesting rumors that are floating around are that Werth's merchandise is being taken down at citizen's bank and that the Angels are trying to work out a three-way deal for Werth and then Oz to Philly. I wouldn't put to much stock into either one but something to keep an eye out for at least.
lol. "Hey min-wage employees of Citizen's Bank fan shop, this is Ruben Amaro. I'm gonna need you folks to IMMEDIATELY remove all Jayson Werth merchandise from your shelves. I thought you all should know this before the rest of the world does, but he is being traded. The LAST thing we want is to accidentally make some money off of obsolete Jayson Werth Phillies gear."
Lolololol...I know I know but that stuff does happen with merchandise when something is about to go down with a certain player. Since they played this afternoon it would make sense. Saying that, far fetched indeed.
Dude, you do not want to see the Cardinals in the World Series with Roy Oswalt on the mound. Anything less than Miller and Rasmus in the deal, the Astros should just look elsewhere. The Cards system is as bad as ours. Unless the Phils are going to part with Domonic Brown, the Twins are the team I'd be looking to trade with.
Why not? If the franchise chooses to take a worse deal because they don't want the Cardinals to win a World Series then it's a bad front office. They should be doing what's best for the team, regardless of who else benefits.
The Cards offered Jon Jay and Brendan Ryan, its not like they blew the Astros away with that offer and the Astros said no simply because they didn't want to see Oswalt in a Cards uniform. The Cardinals don't have a lot of young talent (like the Phils) and won't deal Rasmus or Miller, plus they don't want to spend money with Pujols being a free agent. The front office has already said their only going to trade Oswalt if it'll help both teams, which means the team that wants Oswalt is going to have to give up something. Its not us, its them
I'm not really concerned about the details of the trade - if the trade itself is crappy, then of course the Astros shouldn't take it. I was pointing to the simple fact that we shouldn't want to see Oswalt in the World Series with the Cardinals. It's no different than him being in the World Series with anyone else. That should be totally irrelevant to the front office.
For the same reason the Astros never would have traded Nolan Ryan to the Dodgers or the same reason the Rockets would never trade Olajuwon to the Utah Jazz. You don't trade the face of your franchise to your closest rivals. It tarnishes the players legacy with the original franchise and it's something fans never forget, it leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Drayton would get roasted every time Roy started a playoff game for St Louis or won a playoff game or did anything of consequence. It's a bad business decision. After all of that, any team can put together a better trade package than St. Louis. Even if the St. Louis deal is marginally better on the surface, it's worse for the reasons I just mentioned.
Oswalt doesn't mean to this city what Ryan and Olajuwon did. It wouldn't bother me one bit seeing him in a Cards jersey.
Not only that, I don't think most Astros fans have a general hatred for the Cardinals. I've rooted for them in the playoffs the last few years since the Astros were out. Good city, good fans, good guys on their team. Now if he went to the Cubs...totally different story.
I don't hate the Cardinals. They have some of the best fans in the game and it seems like they value the same type of players the Astros do. The Astros aren't going anywhere for the near future and IF the Cards had the best package to offer for Roy, I'd be fine with trading with them. Since they clearly don't, I don't think this is a discussion anyway. The one prospect they have is marginal, IMO, and the younger major league players are not an improvement over what we already have.
I genuinely hate Chris Carpenter and their pornstaches. I also think their fanbase is overrated. All fanbases are pretty similar when you get down to it.
