Perhaps, but when there's an imminent deadline, there's a greater sense of competition between teams trying to acquire a player and a greater likelihood of them giving up more than they would if they weren't under a time constraint.

Hasn't Roy always had kind of a straight fastball? When he's on, he's just so good at hitting corners and mixing up his location and other pitches.

man, that yankees trade needs to happen. montero is all we need value-wise for roy, anything else is bonus.

this article seems to think they'd be willing to give montero for haren (dont see how the hell that could be possible), and if that's true, surely we can get him and more for roy.

If you can get Jesus Montero, I would try to make a deal with the Yankees. You won't get a single prospect better than Montero for Oswalt.

    Don't you mean

    Adam Wainwright
    Jaime Garcia
    Chris Carpenter
    Roy Oswalt

Garcia has been the 2nd best pitcher of that group this season. As for the playoffs, I would say he would probably the 4th starter because the other 3 are playoff tested. But that is one sick rotation if the Cards get Oswalt.

I gotta be honest i dont follow baseball , i just commented on players i kinda know by name and their success. Wow , talk about 4 man rotation in the playoffs would beat the Phillies (should get Roy.O) .

If the Astros could get the deal from the Yankees that the Mariners were going to get for Lee, that'd be awesome. But, from Nick Cafardo at the Boston Globe, via MLBTR

    [rquoter]
One Astros official indicated that New York might be too “big time’’ for the quiet Oswalt, and that he may not approve a deal there.

When the Astros were playing at NYY, didn't Oswalt say that he would accept a deal to the Yankees?

In the mean while, JA Happ looked good in the 1st today.

stupid. we aren't going to be getting back premium prospects if we take either of them.

Loney is hitting 301 with 65 RBI(more than any Astro), Kemp has 17 HRs (also more than any Astro)

These are not prospects, they are proven major league talent.

That doesn't make any sense. Losing Kemp to add Oswalt would be a net downgrade or breakeven for this year's team - it doesn't help them win anything this year. And the last thing the Astros need is a non-power hitting first baseman. They have a lack of power all over this team - no reason to lock in the biggest power position with a non-power-hitting player.

guess i wasn't clear. the package wouldn't be oswalt for one of them straight up, but dealing for either of them would make them the centerpiece of the deal, which is ****ing stupid. we need a top prospect as the centerpiece of the deal (obviously).
