I dont trust the Astros front office to pull off a deadline deal. They're very likely to just botch it and not do anything if they're expected to pull something like that off.

But who knows maybe they'll generate some faith in their ability to make moves.

Because history tells you they don't make these deals? If anything, they've proven that they're more inclined to make deadline deals than not.

When it comes to selling a player of any value they've consistently failed at it. This isn't the first year that made sense to trade Oswalt, he couldve easily been traded last year or two years ago. The same goes with trading other guys like setup relievers and closers (i.e. valverde)

In fact I cant think of the last time they've ever been on the selling end. The whole problem with the Astros was their buying players when they werent in contention and giving away what little prospects we had.

He's seemed really picky about where he wants to go in the past. If it's true that he's really excited about the Cardinals, my guess is that's where he ends up because he could make it difficult (or impossible, if he really wanted to) for anyone else to trade for him.

Two years ago, the Astros picked up Wolf and Hawkins and people thought they were crazy. They were a hurricane away from probably making the playoffs.

One of the problems with them being in contention for the playoffs for so many years in a row was that they could not afford to be sellers.

Last year they should have sold a few, but don't discount the fact that they picked up two first round draft picks by holding on to Valverde.

"But Houston is looking for higher-ceiling young players, particularly a catcher and/or corner infielders..."

You want talent above all, esp. at premium positions, but if the Astros are actually pro-actively looking for a catcher, that would surprise me a little.

So much information floating around right now that it's hard to separate fact from fiction.

One of the Twins top prospects is a catcher, although he hasn't been playing well at AAA.

Not that completely disagree with you but the Griz did pickup one of the best young bigs in the game with that trade. If the Stros are forced to deal with the Cards, Miller MUST MUST be involved.

The bidding war has begun and I am pretty convinced Roy's demands will go away by the deadline. Dodgers have some nice prospects as do the Twins so business about to pick up.

That doesn't surprise me. I mentioned in another thread that as good as Bourn has been for us, he's approaching 28 and his best tool is his speed. I didn't find the article yet but I read about how players in Bourn's mold tend to decline rapidly after 30, which is the soonest that you can reasonably expect the Astros to be in contention. For every Kenny Lofton, there are a lot more speedsters that lose value once their athletcism declines. I'm not saying to look to trade Bourn necessarily but I don't think anybody should be untouchable on the current roster except perhaps Castro.

I don't think they're against trading Myers. That comment about him being part of our future sounded like classic posturing to raise demands. Myers is in prime "sell high" mode right now.

This is actually pretty exciting news IMO, Bourn being potentially on the block tells me NO one is untouchable and that is how it should be. It would be my wet dream for the Stros to trade everyone they could by the deadline and get that farmsystem going again.

i hope we don't trade bourn. Honestly the only three people I want on this team are Bourn, Pence and Keppinger. Maybe keep Berkman if he wants to renegotiate his contract for next year. If not trade him along with oswalt and anybody else who can get us some decent prospects.
