yea, we face him saturday i believe, unless hes traded. seriously though, how the hell are you gonna trade him in division? come on now
The Astros really don't have a rivalry with anyone. Cards and Cubs are rivals and the Astros are no where near that. They had that fun run with the Cards in 04-05, but that's as intense it has been and won't be getting back there anytime soon.
With the current state of the Astros...trading Roy to a "rival"/team within our division should truly be a non issue. We are an irrelevant team and with the makeup of our lack talent throughout the organization, we all know it will take atleast 2-3 seasons to bring this club back up to a competitive stature (2 being a real pipe dream). Yea it would be weird to see Roy don a Cardinals jersey while he tosses a 3 hit, 9 K complete game shutout against us but let's get serious, opposing team's 4th, 5th, and even their spot starters are already doing that to us...the losses have been piling up, and when we are not in contention who really cares who's on that opposing mound during these beat downs? Now, if we were deep within the playoff picture this would be a completely different story and I would have to agree about not wanting to him to someone within our division but of course we're not. If the Cardinals offer us the best package to help move our organization in the right direction to rebuilding then we HAVE to take it if we truly are serious about getting back to the top. And it's not like Roy is some 23 year old whose got another decade of pitching dominance left in him.
Duh the astros have sucked for the past 5 years, but am just saying it'll hurt seeing Oswalt in a "rivals" uniform, maybe its just because I hate the Cards
Define suck. They only missed the playoffs by 3 1/2 games in 2008, and that was when our momentum got f**ked up by Hurricane Ike and we had to play "home" games in Milwaukee.
Oops I forgot about '08, ****'n bud selig!!!! I still wonder if the hurricane wouldn't have hit or if we would've played in Arlington (where its closer to Houston, does anybody know why Selig made a homegame in milwaukee for the Astros?), I wanted to see how far we could've gotten in the playoffs, also last year we were pretty good at the half, then Berkman got injured and Roy had his back problems ...damn, my bad I forgot
The more team names that get floated out there as possible landing spots, the better our leverage with the team we really want to trade with.
OMG....the memories of 2008.... They were playing soooo well together then the Milwaukee Massacre. That was some total Horse....shipoopi.
For one, by the time we're any good again Ozwalt will be retired. Secondly, we've never really been rivals with the Hornets. Notice how we cheer for them to beat the Mavs and Spurs....because those are our rivals.
If the Phillies would like a right-handed OF bat, I have a feeling we can accomodate them quite quick-LEE!
It's Oswalt. Look at the title. And it's ridiculous to say he'll be retired by the time we're any good. How old was Clemens when he retired? Wasn't Pettite going to retire years ago, and now he's 38 and still pitching well? Roy is 32, which isn't old for a pitcher. He could have a decade+ left in him. The Stros won't be bad for that long.
Why? Because you're worried the Cardinals might become better than the Astros the next few years if they get Oswalt? The Astros will suck for the next several years. I am not worried about where Oswalt goes AT ALL because the Astros are so non-competitive; in fact, I'd rather he goes to the Cardinals so he makes visits to Houston occasionally and I can still go watch him pitch. Maybe the Astros will be competitive in 2-3 years, but by then, Oswalt's contract will be over. But yeah, that's a nasty rotation... Wainwright, Oswalt, Carpenter, Garcia... yikes. The irony is that Oswalt would have the worst ERA of the bunch. It would possible net us Shelby Miller, a guy who currently has a 1.42 K/IP ratio (which is ridiculous). With Miller and Lyles in our system, I'd actually begin to have some hope for our future pitching rotation.
As much as I'd hate to see Roy in a Cardinal uniform, I'd get over it. I dont hate the Cards any more. We beat them in the playoffs last time we faced them. I don't hold any ill feelings towards the Cards. They're just a darn good team with the best player in baseball. I can't say I'll cheer for them if they land Roy, but I'll definitely cheer for them on days Roy pitches.
I hear ya...you see, I'm pretty pathetic. As bad as the Astros are now, I still watch most games and hope for wins. Since we play the Cards so often, and since Roy has been my favorite pitcher for the last decade, it would be painful to watch him help a team in our division beat us all the time. I understand they will probably beat us regardless, but watching him do it in a Cards uniform would be painful. I don't hate the Cards like I do the Cubs, in fact I root form them when not playing the Stros...but it would be a bitter pill to swallow.
