yeah it sure doesn't, bro, so why keep clemens and berkman? the rumor is trading oswalt. why trade him if you're hanging on to the other two when you can get quality prospects for them as well. i'm sure trading oswalt for our centerfielder of the future is exactly what clemens had in mind when he signed here.
Wonder if them shopping Oswalt has anything to do with him saying he only wants to play another 5 years. I'm sure him saying he wants to test free agency has something to do with it as well.
i'm just curious, why? milledge's numbers are not stellar. he isn't a good basestealer in the minors and he only has decent power. he looks like he projects to an average player.
As for Oswalt being on the market, I'm not suprised. He is a pending free agent who has made public comments suggesting he is not a fan of Garner and the organization. About this rumored deal, I caught the comments Clemens made last night about how he thinks the organization will do whatever they can to make a big deal but, if they can't, they'll go in another direction. I think this is that other direction. If they can't land a big time bat to help the offense and spark the team, they will look to re-stock since they are on the brink of being out of it anyway.
As for trading Roy I say hell no ... however, if we were going to trade him, I am sure someone in the playoff hunt would be willing to give us much more than milledge for him.
Hopefully they just put his name out there for just that reason. Arod for Oswalt is about the only thing that seems reasonable unless someone can package a slew of absolutely cant miss prospects. No, I don't consider Lastings Milledge to be a can't miss prospect. Who's to say he won't be another Corey Patterson?
Oswalt for a freaking prospect? Geez, this reeks of "Elton Brand for the 2nd overall pick" ... only worse. If you really want to to deal Roy (and I say NO!), wait until this offseason or at least next year's trading deadline.
I don't support this trade, but using exclusively batting average to judge a player is a complete joke. His OPS has been around .900 both of the last two years, and he's supposed to be a stud defender, a great basestealer and a terrific all-around player. Again, I don't want this trade to happen. But Milledge is a great prospect - by far, better than any of ours (imo of course) - and to use batting average from half of one season to judge him is as shallow as analysis can possibly get. Also, I'm a little glad these rumors are out there, if nothing more than to give Astros fans a reality check. The trade suggestions of the last few months have been absurd... I can't begin to recall how many absurd trade suggestion threads we've had for young studs like Cabrera and Willis where we give maybe one pretty good prospect, one mediocre one and two complete pieces of garbage (Lane, Taveras, etc.). This is simply other teams' equivalent to what we've been doing. You have to give to get in this league, and we don't really have the assets to get some of the players we've talked about. It's not that simple.
I'm not for trading oswalt, just pointing out if they wait until the offseason they will be in an even worse position.
They seem infinitely more ridiculous this year than in others. Yet people hear this b.s. and get all worked up. Crazy. There's no way, no freaking way, that the Astros trade Roy O in the middle of the season. Beyond stupid. Think about it people.
I seriously doubt that the Astros offered Oswalt to the Mets. Minaya heard the rumor about the deal with the Orioles and thought that he might give it a shot. There is no way in hell that they trade Roy Oswalt for Lastings Milledge. at least I freaking hope so.
ok but he isn't a great basestealer because he gets gunned down way too often. his OPS has been below .870 before this year in the minors and this year it is .855. i just don't see how he is that amazing unless his defense is stellar. further he still seems like he isn't going to be ML ready/productive for another couple years. http://www.athomeplate.com/sb061206.shtml
astros would be dumb to do this. i'd trade oswalt for tejada before i do millege....but if it happens, go mets
I do not have a link or anything but someone correct me if I'm wrong. I could swear he made comments about how Garner left him off the Allstar team originally and made public comments about how he has to pitch a perfect game to win with the offense not doing anything. My post before probably came off more extreme than I intended. I was just saying he hasn't seemed happy with some things lately and has expressed them.
