I don't think baseball trades operate according to greatest efficiency. It's like selling a used car. It's about a buyer falling in love and a seller convincing himself that it is time to sell, and that the offered deal is really the best deal he can get.
fwiw: SI_JonHeyman - hearing red-hot #chisox might consider peavy's buddy oswalt now. but they are leery of nl-to-al switch.
SI_JonHeyman hearing red-hot #chisox might consider peavy's buddy oswalt now. but they are leery of nl-to-al switch The White Sox aren't going to give us Beckham so we can forget that but I would want something like Brent Moral, Santos Rodriguez and John Shelby. Also Uncle D needs to at least give up 3.75 million to cover some of Oz's remaining salary for the year since it will be pro-rated from 15 million. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2009/12/9/1194068/chicago-whitesox-top-20-prospects
Still same clubhouse and they would get to pitch together next year also Peavy had original said no last year and changed his mind.
[rquoter]kd (charlotte) What is the trade verdict on Oswalt and Fielder? Yea or Nay? If so, where? Jayson Stark (1:14 PM) If I were a betting man, I'd bet nay on both. Sounds like the Astros are only willing to eat a few million dollars of Oswalt's contract, and that still leaves over $20M left. Add in his no-trade, and his lack of enthusiasm for going to the American League, you're not talking about very many destinations. Prince is only going to get moved for a heavy price tag. And as Buster alluded to this week, clubs are wary of his defense and body type. And they pretty much know they can't sign him, because he's a Scott Boras client, meaning he's heading for free agency no matter what. So that's a tough sell. But he's more likely to go than Oswalt.[/rquoter] http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/33385
ha...if they are worried about not having Brett Myers as their "top of rotation starter" for next f'ing season, everybody worries about drayton and co. are completely well-founded.
