alysonfooter NY media surrounding Roy, asking about trade request. Obviously they're trying to figure out if he wants Yankees. Roy taking high road alysonfooter Roy's keeping it general. Wants to play for contender, focus now is helping Astros win, trade would help both him and Astros, blah blah blah. alysonfooter Roy says he doesn't care which league he pitches in. Admits he'd like to see how he'd do in AL, seeing everyone thinks it's harder than NL. alysonfooter Tomorrows headlines, of course, will scream OSWALT LOVES NY, WANTS YANKS, MISSES PETITTE. So prepare yourselves now.
I saw a blurb a few days back about the Cardinals looking for SP now -- as bad as it seems, I'm hoping the Astros don't get hot enough to where Uncle Drayton refuses to trade Oswalt/Berkman -- we need those prospects.

Rangers working hard to acquire Roy...details to follow. http://bbs.clutchfans.com/showthread.php?t=187771
Assessing the trade market for aces Cliff Lee and Roy Oswalt Cliff Lee and Roy Oswalt are very likely to be the two biggest stars among starting pitchers on the block this trading season. Lee, a 31-year-old lefty for the Mariners, and Oswalt, the Astros' 32-year-old righty, are two excellent and accomplished pitchers who are about the same age and carry the potential to be big difference-makers for someone else this season. For this summer at least, they are inexorably linked. Except for one thing: Lee should have big value while Oswalt just might be worth close to nothing. That's not an insult to Oswalt, just the reality of the economics of the situation. Read more: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/jon_heyman/06/14/oswalt.lee/index.html#ixzz0qsDgQiSa
@JeffPassan: Lance Berkman tells Y! Sports he doesn't believe Houston will trade him or Roy Oswalt: "The landscape has changed." http://yhoo.it/9eo6GD
Well, you can't say he's not honest... “The baseball landscape has changed,” Berkman said. “Teams value their prospects more than they ever have. I’m 34. I’m not having a great year. Who knows how many more years I’ve got left or what my production’s going to be? As a slugger, you get into your mid-to-late 30s, start struggling, and then it’s like you might be done. I don’t blame somebody for thinking that.”
hard to blame Berkman for those comments. What do you do? In these times, anyone who's had a modicum of success constantly has a mic shoved in his face. Lance is always frank and honest--perhaps too much so, but let's not throw him under the bus as if he were some camera w**** or someone calling the media just to blab or whine.
so many rumors...heck, my friend who's a reds fan was saying the reds and astros are looking at a berkman-O to reds, in return, vatto, some guy in the outfiled and a pitcher, all young decent guys who play for the reds now no link, just him referring to the Reds board, but then again, he also said the reds are looking at Lee too...who the f' knows what's going to happen, but I will say if something happens, I hope we get some value, which is hard to do with two aging stars...
The reds trading Votto is like the Astros trading Berkman in 2000 or 2001, it won't happen. No way, no how.
I dont believe that. If we stay the course and wait till around the trade deadline, teams that are in the middle of playoffs pushes are ALWAYS looking for pitching help let alone a front line starter.
Yea, I'd imagine teams would rather have a pitcher still pretty much on top of his game than a declining hitter roughly for the same price unless one more bat could make the difference and even then Lee's price tag would make it REALLY difficult to swallow.
How about Roy Oswalt and $5 million dollars cash to Texas for Chris Davis, Leury Garcia, Wilmer Font, and Kasey Kiker?
I'd rather have Robbie Ross (A-ball) than Kasey Kiker, who doesn't look to good this season. I'd actually rather have Martin Perez (AA), but that would be asking for alot.
I would have thought about adding Martin Perez but I think he is close to untouchable. He is 19 years old, left-handed, and already in AA. I think Perez and Tanner Scheppers are probably untouchable in the Rangers eyes. I remember the Phillies were saying the same thing about Kyle Drabek but they ended up trading him for Roy Halladay.
Having had some conversations with friends who are Rangers fans and casual fans on the internet, the consensus among them is that Perez is untouchable. I have a hard time believing that prospects are untouchable save the few rare exceptions (Strasburg, Weiters, Posey, Heyward). IMO if a few teams can get into a bidding war, the return package for the Astros can only get better (especially if they throw in some cash to cover Roy O's salary, which isn't likely). Nonetheless if the package of Rangers' prospects was: Blake Beavan RHP (AA Frisco) Robbie Ross RHP (A Hickory) Chris Davis 1B (AAA OKC) Michael Main (A Bakersfield) That gets you a replacement for Berkman at first, a young pitcher in Beavan who will probably be in AAA by season's end and can compete for the rotation next season, Ross and Main can be paired with Bushue in Lexington to form a very formidable rotation. Main and Ross are some very upside arms, along with Beavan who has really shined this season. Truthfully the Rangers have an embarrassment of riches for a farm system and getting some high upside players would go a long way toward rebuilding the Astros.
