Any confirmation whether or not he really signed for the minimum? That seems very unlikely considering the scarcity of big men in the league. You would think us, Dallas, Sacramento, Boston, or Miami would bid up his price (even as a backup) for more than that.

Either he signed for more, or there's something about him that we don't know about other than that he's a lazy bum.

Perhaps the coach did NOT want him?

Ostertag may or may not be a good fit for the Rockets, but please don't disparage a man that risked life and career to give a kidney to his ailing sister. A "lazy bum" wouldn't do that and then do all that was necessary to come back.

I gotta say. I have a lot of respect for Ostertag. The man saved his sister's life by giving her a kidney. Former Utah Jazz or not, that's a man to be commended.

Tag was my top choice for a back up big man. Not really good enough to start, but often does...the perftect description for a good back up. And if he did go for the minimum, that is hard to beat.

On the other hand, I can't help but think he is just a big fat tub of goo. I was usually pleased when Utah is forced to play Tag against us. As Sloan said, "Inconsistancy is his game" ... or ther abouts.

I still can't come to a firm decision on did we miss a golden opportunity, or did we just dodge a bullet.

I should have put quotes around "lazy bum" - just a reference to another person's post. I know absolutely nothing about him.

I also posted that we should have gotten him. He's not a great player. But for the minimum I would have been happy. He can rebound ok. He can block shots. That's all we needed. And he is from Texas. But maybe he likes Sacramento.

We need someone to play 10 to 15 minutes a game as a backup center. Tag, even though he was in the game longer, hardly ever PLAYED 5 minutes a game. MoT can give us as much as Tag could.

Ostertag is just the next in a line of players who looked like "studs" under Sloan, and will disappoint bigtime elsewhere.

Compare to Shaq's 53% FT, Tag's 57% is very glamorous. He ranks#300 in the league for free throw percentage.

Someone please check the nba.com before make any comments.

I am going out on a limb and saying lancet meant field goal (FG) percent, seeing how Ostertag's main shot is a dunk.

I thought he would be a good back-up C choice because he is a defensive presence and the 1.6 million exemption would be a bargain.

If Sac indeed got him for the vet min that is a smart move for them. Probably smarter than Vlade for 3-5 mil seeing as CWebb and Miller they already have offensive oriented big guys.
