I know most of this is about Shaq vs Howard, but as a Rockets fan, when did Dream help out Howard? Dream is the FIRST GUY, Howard mentions. I guess the Dream is a true ambassador to the game.

Howard Reacts To Jabs From Shaq (The Big Diss)

Magic center Dwight Howard said he was "shocked" at some of the things Suns center Shaquille O'Neal has said about him.

"I try not to think about it. Some of the things I hear, I am shocked to hear him say that," said Howard, his trademark smile gone.

    What has Shaq said?

Well, it’s all pretty much a variation on the same adolescent theme: I’m the original NBA Superman and Dwight can’t carry my, er, cape.

"You know, it’s normal for a kid to copycat his idol, but you know he can never be this good," Shaq has said.

Shaq was asked by CBSSports' Ken Berger recently if Howard was the closest thing to being the next Shaq. O’Neal scoffed.

"No. Not at all. He’s a good player. He can jump. But no," he said. "I was the type of player that they had to have secret meetings and change the rules and do all that. Probably never be another me. He’s a good player, but everything he’s done, I’ve invented. So I’m not impressed."

Sports Illustrated asked O’Neal --- who sports a Superman tattoo and often wears Superman pajama bottoms to practice --- whether Howard’s Superman shtick bothered him.

"Doesn’t bother me. I can’t be impressed by something I invented in ’92 (his first year in Orlando) . I mean, you look at what he is doing, I’ve been there and done that," O’Neal said. "Every street he is driving down in Orlando, I have been on that street. Every nightclub, every restaurant. . .. I have been there and done that.

"Until he wins three, four championships, then we can talk about him. But right now, he is just like every other big guy. ‘You can run and jump, but you haven’t won yet."’

    Ouch. Ouch. And ouch.

Oh, and let us not forget the sight of Shaq bouncing a pass between Howard’s legs during the all-star game, leaving Dwight red-faced.

Of course, it just might be Shaq being Shaq. He has always been a giant entertainment center, flooding the league with pro wrestling-type propaganda.

He’s The Big Tweaker (ask favorite target Kobe and most recently, Toronto’s Chris Bosh, whom Shaq recently called "the RuPaul of big men.")

Before being asked about Shaq’s comments, Howard, 23, praised the play of The Big Comeback this season. He said he even taped the Suns’ game on Sunday against the L.A. Lakers and watched it twice, scouting the newly forceful Shaq, who turns 37 on Friday.

O’Neal scored 45 points in a win against the Raptors and 33 to beat Kobe and the Lakers, who, oddly enough, began Shaq’s ‘09 Reunion Tour. After facing the Magic tonight, The Big Diesel motors to Miami for a game on Wednesday against the Heat.

" I can’t stop Shaq from saying anything. I just wouldn’t expect that coming from him," Howard said. "But the only thing I would expect from him is that he would try to help me improve my game and that’s it."

    Has he?

    "No," Howard said.

"Like all the other big guys (do), you know, like Hakeem (Olajuwon), Pat Ewing, Dikembe (Mutombo), Bill Russell, David Robinson . . .tried to help me improve…Taking shots at somebody else, I wouldn’t do that."

Lol, this barely rockets related. Hakeem probably just gave him some verbal advice.

I would expect Dwight to have a much better offensive game if all of those big men helped him out. I wonder if he is almost at his ceiling offensively?

I'm not sure about Shaq. One part of me says he just likes promoting things and this isn't personal and the other side of me says he is a bitter, old man who can't stand to see the end of his career on the horizon. He is going to be the biggest critic of the NBA once he is gone.

The Bosh comment is right on the money though.

Shaq has always had a bit of an ego, and this is just is ego continuing to show itself to the huge size that we know it to be. Howard shouldn't worry about it.

It's widely acknowledged that Shaq is one of the most sensitive people in the NBA. When he was entering the league, he was very respectful of the other big men out there, particularly Hakeem. The questions people ask him hurt his feelings, though. It's like people are ready to turn the page on him and combined with the trade rumors, he's rightfully pissed. I think he's picked a terrible target to lash out at, though. Dwight is a nice kid and he doesn't deserve to be bashed just to make Shaq feel better about himself. It's true that Dwight needs to develop the offensive arsenal that Shaq has and to win some rings before he can be considered in the same breath, but the question was about whether Dwight is the closest physical specimen to Shaq, and that's plainly true. So I hope Stan Van Gundy uses these quotes to encourage Dwight to bulldoze Shaq. He really needs to be put in his place.

he doesnt say what he means
he tries to have jedi mind control over folks
i am sure shaq respects his game
but he could possibly face him in the finals
and any edge shaq can gain he is planning his strategy now

What Shaq says is true even if its a bit harsh. Dwight Howard is not even close to the force that was young Shaq.

The only bif shaq ever respected was dream and later duncan. He said dream always played straight up and never flopped and how can anyone not respect duncan who a winner. There will never be another guy of shaq's dominance. Big guys now want to be butterflies while shaq loved being a bull. He was beat up more than anyone and yet dished it out for 40. Look how many guys changed positions to avoid shaq. How many guy avg 28 and 12 as a rookie?

Shaq is right....Howard is no where near what he was....offensively. I do like that Howard is a dominant rebounder though. But he needs to get off that "they changed the rules for me" garbage. The only thing that changed for him is he stopped going up against greats like Hakeem and MJ...and started going up against ones like Webber or scrub centers like Todd Maccullah (however ya spell his name). That, and he was fortunate to get some great closers since (Kobe & Wade) he sucks at that.

DH looks like a kid standing behind Shaq. He needs at least 20 ft/per game from ref to match Shaq's offense skill.

Slow down? I don't know.... Maybe he meant the zone defense stuff?

I do remember the NBA changing the rule to where you can't foul the guy without the ball for 2 FTs. I think they made it a FT + the ball now? so people would stop the hack-a-shaq.
