A brief mention - worth a Thread? If not, lock:

    In the Rumor Mill . . .

The Magic could have interest in New Orleans Hornets shooting guard J.R. Smith, who likely will be on the trading block. He and Hornets Coach Byron Scott apparently have had a falling-out. . . . Rumor Mill II: Do the Magic and the Houston Rockets have a draft-day deal in the works? That seems to be the scuttlebutt at the Finals. . . .

Makes sense, if we are targeting a player like Brewer who should be around at 11. I would still wait until right before the pick to finalize it, in case a player in the top 6 drops.

So any guesses what would be the consideration paid for moving down?

I don't know. Not a lot makes sense. I would love a Battie for Juwan swap. Turkoglu would be even better. Their 2 second rounders makes the most since though.

JJ should still be there at #11. I don't see them moving up to get him.

It says in the article, they're "not sure" he'll be there. They probably think one of the teams ahead of them really like Redick and will pick him... maybe us.

I just canvassed 21 mock drafts. 2 had JJ at #8, 1 at #10, 2 at #11 and 10 at #14. The rest were after that & 2 were in the 2nd round. So according to this most scientific :D research, there's a 85.7% chance the Magic will be able to get JJ at #11.

I personally think the Jazz will get him at #14.

    Houston drafts Carney at #8.

    Orlando drafts Redick at #11.

Houston sends the Moochie TE and Carney to Orlando.

Orlando sends Stevenson and Redick to Houston.

the only reason they trade up for JJ is if a team ahead of them seems to want him.

i doubt seattle or golden state have much or any interest in JJ. maybe seattle, maybe boston, maybe us.

I think CD might have kidnapped JJ:

he knows that's who the magic want because thier rookie GM revealed thier hand. so CD postures that the rockets would love JJ and all of a sudden the magic have to give us some compensation for moving down.

we will draft JJ for the magic. golden state takes o'bryant because they need a center. the sonics trade thier pick to save money, and the team trading up most likely targets a guy like marcus williams or another big guy like simmons.

at #11 we can still take brewer and maybe have a future first as compensation.

I think you have Carney & Redick switched. Even so, I wouldn't do this one. We would probably want Brewer instead of Carney & I don't think Stevenson is a fit here.

On my Mock Madness draft (signiture) I have the Rockets taking JJ Redick but then moving him to Orlando for Ronnie Brewer + an asset. So I agree.

I'm not so sure Brewer will still be around at 11.
