The proposed Phoenix trade is...well, they'd be giving up too much. Just way too much.

Shawn Marion might not get 25 ppg for that max contract, but he gets you everything else. About 18ppg, steals, blocks, rebounds. He isn't the marquee attraction of a McGrady; but to give up Marion, Johnson (up-and-coming stud), Voskuhl, et al?

Maybe I'm missing the point. McGrady's presence on a sorry Orlando team netted them many TV appearances (albeit, they already had set that schedule before they knew how much Orlando would suck).

Steve + Cato + Cat for McGrady and Hill, IF we know McGrady would re-sign, and IF we know that Hill would just go away if it turns out that, as usual, eh can't play, and at least get us a medical exception.

Even then, I'd almost rather have Marion and Johnson.

Orlando trades: PF Maurice Taylor (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.8 minutes)
SG Cuttino Mobley (15.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.2 apg in 40.4 minutes)
Orlando receives: PF Maurice Taylor (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.8 minutes)
SG Cuttino Mobley (15.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.2 apg in 40.4 minutes)
Change in team outlook: 0.0 ppg, 0.0 rpg, and 0.0 apg.

Houston trades: SG Tracy McGrady (28.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 5.5 apg in 39.9 minutes)
    C Steven Hunter (3.2 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 0.2 apg in 13.4 minutes)
Houston receives: SG Tracy McGrady (28.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 5.5 apg in 67 games)
    C Steven Hunter (3.2 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 0.2 apg in 59 games)
Change in team outlook: 0.0 ppg, 0.0 rpg, and 0.0 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to Orlando and Houston being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Orlando and Houston had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The reason why Orlando would be interested in Walker for Hill and their lotto pick is because Walker's contract expires in a year. It's strictly an opportunity to dump Hill's contract; it's not like they expect acquiring Walker will make TMac happy. If Orlando does the Dallas trade, TMac is gone, because they will have given up their only means of significantly improving the team.

The Magic may go for Francis for Hill/#1, but only if they believe Francis will help the team, because Stevie's contract is long and expensive.

I agree about Okafor being the ideal PF for this team. I've heard his midrange jumper is questionable, which would be critical to his playing next to Yao, but otherwise, a Yao/Okafor/bench PF rotation at the 4 and 5 would be unstoppable.

This is true. But the way I look at it is the two-man game between McGrady and Yao. Just think of the posiblites of plays that could be run. Add the fact that Yao can play the highpost (18ft jumpers) makes the idea of the two-man game that much better (McGrady can play the low-post too).

They can't double both players. :D Also, Yao and McGrady are low turnover players too!

Steve is unhappy? When did that happen? He said he and the coach were cool.

No way we get T-Mac without trading Steve. If we did everyone would be kissing CD's ass for decades. That'd be incredible but Steve is more than a good trade for T-Mac.

I won't hold my breath for a T-Mac scenario, but if we got him, what would be real nice is this: Les might actually go over the luxury tax to sign a player we need, because the house would fill up (and so would Les' coffers) if T-Mac were on the Rockets.

    My 2 cents...

    * Grant Hill for Walker is about the pick not cap space since both players come off of the books in 2005.

    * PHX is not giving up too much since they also have a Lottery pick and $10m in cap space.

    * Don't embarass yourself listing a TMac trade that doesn't send Francis somewhere.

EDIT: My bad...Hill has a POpt for 2005-06. ORL gets Walkers Bird Rights and no one is going to pay Antoine $14.6m again.

first off, whoever claims that we can get McGrady for anything less than Steve and/or Yao is serioulsy off their rocker. Unless you are 12 years old you really need to get a clue. Do you think that teams just give away top 5 players in the world? second, the phoenix trade is by far the best thing that the magic could get, two potential allstars AND a top 10 pick? also, any deal for Tracy is not happening until after the draft and FA signings, right? dont forget that the Suns have loads of cap room this offseason. if they are rumored to be getting TMAC, Pho will look very attractive to ALL the FAs on the market. we are not getting Tracy, carry on...

I don't think that tmac and kobe would play together.

What I'm worried about is that Kobe will go to Memphis. That would be a scary team!

There's only 2 ways that can happen. Kobe plays for the MLE (which I highly doubt he'd leave LA to do) or he forces a SnT. In the latter, MEM is forced to send LA $13m-$15m in contracts. The two highest paid Grizz are Bonzi Wells with a POpt for $8m and Lo Wright @ $7.2. Most of the rest of the Grizz make near MLE type money meaning they'd have to send 3 players to LA to match SnT salaries.

IMO, the Lakers would force Kobe's hand to take the MLE by holding out for enough quality players that it would substantially gut MEM. Keeping Gasol but taking the next 2 or 3 best Grizzlies is not that great a team. If I'm the Lakers, I hold out for Bonzi, Posey and Lo Wright. Now how good is MEM?

Did Steve Francis fill the house up after a ROY season? Did Yao fill the house up in his rookie year when he was the biggest thing in the league that year? If I was Les, I'd expect higher attendance but no way the house will be filled up unless the Rox have a championship team on the floor. Not championship calibre, championship team.

I think we should try as hard as we can to trade Steve for a superstar and somehow get a top 16 pick to grab a good pg. Telfair is available at 17. He's got star material. We'd be a good FA attraction.

Ah, I meant according to nbadraft.net. There's a few quality pgs. We could even have a shot at Payton if we have say a T-Mac and bring our new pg off the bench. Fill in everything else with quality hustle guys. Not too hard these days.
