I think it's the other way around. A big man like Cato is hard to find but worth it, even at his ludicrous price. You can get shooting guards anywhere. There damn near a dime-a-dozen.

I don't think you can just change his opt-out clause. The rockets are taking a huge gamble. They would need to clear serious cap-room to sign both Yao and McGrady next offseason.

Yao for T-Mac and #1 would make us Detroit SUPERSIZED. If T-Mac can't put asses in Orlando seats, then Yao can.

    Cato
    Okafor
    McGrady
    Mobley
    Francis

Now we're ready to run, defend, and BALL!!

    Make it happen.

LMAO...you guys would give up the chance at McGrady because you are pining over Cat and Cato? You want more for those three...newsflash...the only more is Kobe, Shaq, Duncan, and KG. If you think them throwing in Gooden, Howard or any other scrub is going to make or break this trade you are crazy.

Any TMac deal with any team will have his opt out/extension dealt with. Absolutely.

As for clearing cap room, Yao is working under a rookie contract which the Rox can extend without consideration to the cap and McGrady has 'Bird' so he can be extended without consideration to the cap.

Things like Lux Tax, team budgets etc are for Alexander to weigh and measure.

    Exactly.

    Francis + Mobley + Cato = $25.2m * .85 = $21.4m

    McGrady = $14.5m

Delta = $6.9m more to HOU.

    It's clearly not 3 for 1.

This indicates that the Rockets might be thinking of remaking the team. Sound like they are on the right track, at least its a beginning!

Thank you MemphisX for putting in proper perspective! A bystander view showing just how silly it would be to consider that including Cat and Cato would be deal killers in acquiring TMac.

The Rockets would be the laughingstock of the league if they truly had this chance and turned it down. They'd have a chance to get rid of a bad contract for a good backup center and a questionable max contract for a bad fit at PG. And people here are questioning the inclusion of Mobley in a deal that would the Rockets McGrady?!? And people on this board have the nerve to question CD's sanity in making personnel moves when some here wouldn't make this no brainer trade?!?:D

Wait. So Orlando wants our "And1" brain-dead backcourt and our overpaid backup center with no "O" AND terrible hands for the reigning NBA scoring champ (plus filler to plug a hole)?

... And this is a bad trade HOW?

Ford's 'Insider' has a full TMac article. Interesting reading. Lotys of speculation, some not believable -- like TMac willing to go to LAClips?

Stevie and Boki for TMac, it says.

While Yao is a "high quality center" I don't think that he's yet shown the potential to be a legendary type center. Maybe lack of stamina, strength, speed, toughness, etc will develop more over the years but I'd prefer to have a dynamic, mobile center over a slow, deliberate one. As a matter of fact, I'd prefer to have a very young swingman that's a multiple scoring champ to a slower paced center that probably will never be able to recover on quick change of possesions to block a shot from behind or beat his counter part up the court for 48 minutes.
And please don't try to make this into SOF vs YOF. It's not. Just my preferences.

This trade is such a no brainer it's disgusting.

    Mobley the deal breaker? Hahahahaha

If TM is healthy, the Rox would be insane not to make this trade. Absolutely freakin insane.

I see your point but TMcG isnt going to be the playmaker point guard is he? The complaints have been about Francis, T McG is going to play JJs position at the Small Forward, so its not as big a problem as you think.

AWESOME NEWS! And my thoughts (although I haven't read the entire thread) are:

    1. You do this deal every day of the week and twice on the Holy Day.
    2. You scrub the Magic for one more competent player in return - Gooden (or Howard). Albeit Gooden won't light any fires, he's NBA talent and is young (and MO could teach him how to pass) :D
    3. You demand a swap of two's and take Duhon as a backup PG
    4. I've made no secret about it - I want EDDIE BACK! If a lopsided, mirror-foggers-for-talent-deal is that which depletes our roster such that we'd have interest in EG - ALL THE BETTER!
Come back EG, come back! Any printed news or speculation on this happnening as a result of this potential deal?

    Roster is:

    1. Wilks - Duhon
    2. T-Mac - ?
    3. JJ - Gooden - Boki
    4. Mo - EG - Gooden
    5. Yao - ?

I'd fill spots with a vet PG and Four/Five via the MLE and TE, or vice-versa, respectively.

NO $h#! ! The only question is what's coming back. Is it Grant Hill or Howard or Gooden and Lue? Personally, I'm down with Grant Hill, if he's going to retire. Presto - That's Yao's money now.

We're sitting pretty in 05 with that deal.

After we dump those useless pieces of inane trash you heedlessly loyal fans continue to bond with, We have a top 4, 25 yr old talent to pair with Yao for a devastating attack partner from the wing. What else ? We still have room to improve! The offseason's not done there!

We still have the TRADE EXCEPTION - 7 million dollars for a forward; or to package to move an albatross. Kurt Thomas? D. Marshall?

We still have the MCE - 5.5 million dollars for a guard. Brent Barry? or, if we trade for Barry, Carlos Arroyo, or the best talent to fit our needs.

We still try to move MO TAYLOR. His 7.5 million can be used to trade for a decent player. I keep pimping Mo T and Pike, AG or even Boki for Brent Barry and Jerome James. Seattle gets a forward, we get a player who's leaving as a FA, and one who wants to leave. We can do something if we're creative.

We still can pick up talent from the nbdl that can play a decent role. I'd love to get Tmo back. He's long and really could contribute at the 3 - dumping to Yao, swinging the ball to Tmac, rebounding, playing defense. GREAT!.

We still have JJ, to help behind TMAC [put Tmac at the TWO - where he's biggest and works the OPPOSITE side of the court from YAO - spreading the court for BOTH to operate]. We still have JJ to help at the 3. We still have Boki to bring along at 3.

So with a little creativity - we have a two-prong superstar attack, money for Yao, and a balanced group of role players that complement the stars and play fundemental ball. GEEZ! Why do you people have a problem with that?

    Yao/J.James
    D. Marshall-Kurt Thomas/Spoon/Tmo
    Boki/JJ/Tmo
    Tmac/JJ/Barry
    Barry/Arroyo
