Here's a bet for you. If Webber ends up in anywhere other than Houston, Tx I'll change my name to Soyinka... and if he ends up in Hou Almu changes his name to 'heyThatGuyIsOK'. hahhahhahaha. Almu, Webber is not going to end up in NY. Only New Yorkers think that there's greater than .00000008% chance of him ending up in NY. OK, most New Yorkers don't even think he's going to NY. Give it up. They don't have the fire power. They don't have the clout. New York will be rebuilding in less than 2 years. You guys have neither the President nor the GM to do anything anymore. You don't have the money to spend. It's over. It was fun. Cablevision is trying to figure out why they're not competitive right now, and it's b/c of the simple fact that the Knicks are now paying a luxury tax for Glen ****ing Rice and whatshisname. Depending on the costs of Orlando acquiring Davis (it's arguable that Davis not only makes Webber moot but is a better fit to begin with), I believe that Webber will be left looking at Houston in a matter of weeks. ------------------ You're a fine woman, why don't you mock that draft up
Both Sprewell and Houston shoot more than Francis and Mobley. <TABLE border="0" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0" width="450"><TR bgcolor="#FF6600"><TD valign="top" colspan="100%"><font face="arial" size="2">New York Knicks Guards</font></TD></TR><TR bgcolor="#cccccc"><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2" color="#000000">Name</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2" color="#000000">G</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2" color="#000000">FGM-FGA</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2" color="#000000">FG%</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2" color="#000000">Min/G</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2" color="#000000">Shots/G</font></TD></TR><TR><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">Latrell Sprewell</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">77</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">524-1219</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">43.0%</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">39.2</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">15.83</font></TD></TR><TR><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">Allan Houston</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">78</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">542-1208</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">44.9%</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">36.6</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">15.49</font></TD></TR><TR bgcolor="#CC0033"><TD valign="top" colspan="100%"><font face="arial" size="2" color="#ffffff">Houston Rockets Guards</font></TD></TR><TR bgcolor="#cccccc"><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2" color="#000000">Name</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2" color="#000000">G</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2" color="#000000">FGM-FGA</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2" color="#000000">FG%</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2" color="#000000">Min/G</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2" color="#000000">Shots/G</font></TD></TR><TR><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">Cuttino Mobley</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">79</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">527-1214</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">43.4%</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">38.0</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">15.37</font></TD></TR><TR><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">Steve Francis</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">80</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">550-1219</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">45.1%</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">39.9</font></TD><TD valign="top"><font face="arial" size="2">15.24</font></TD></TR></TABLE> I'm not discrediting your source... just saying if Webber is really concerned about there not being enough shots in Houston with Francis and Mobley 'heaving', yet insists Allan Houston and Latrell Sprewell both be on the Knicks if he goes there, then he's not exactly thinking clearly (I haven't even mentioned Glen Rice) ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
ROXTXIA, I live in Northern NJ, work in midtown NYC and travel to the Boogie Down Bronx daily. I get around. Achebe, Most people around here do not want to give up both Camby and Houston for Webber. They want Camby and Webber on the same team. The really die hard fans want Webber even if it costs them their first born. Also, MSG is under disarray after the management changes. But, there is NO SUCH WORD AS REBUILDING when you have 20,000 people waiting for a chance at season tickets, sell outs for 10 years in a row and prices that go for as much as 1500 dollars courtside. No way does this town believe in rebuilding when it comes to the Knicks or the hockey team (Rangers). They just charge too damn much for everything. The fans would rebel. Trust me. ------------------ Sleepless in the Bronx [This message has been edited by Almu (edited May 31, 2001).]
Almu, I guess "rebuilding" is a strong word. I'm sure the Knicks will be able to reload. I just doubt that Scott Layden has the wherewithal to get it done right now. If he somehow magically unloads Glen Rice on the Bulls though, I'll give the Knicks their due (they were always my East Coast team anyhoos). If NY were able to do a deal, what sort of trade would you see happening? Every 3 way that I come up with fails just b/c I can't find something that a) Sac would take back and b) that would interest the 3rd party enough (w/o decimating the Knicks) to give something that a) that Sac would take back. ------------------ You're a fine woman, why don't you mock that draft up
I'm agreeing with Achebe, although I can see a possibility here or there, depending on what Detroit wants. Still, I've already mentioned Glen Rice, age, Detroit undesirable for free agents (who wants to play with Brickhouse the Ballhog anyway?) I always thought the Knicks took Othella with Webber in mind, but even then, I wonder if the Knicks would be better off trading for a high draft pick (Atlanta's?) to draft Diop or some such player. I have no idea who or what they'd trade: nbatalk posted the Knicks were interested in getting high up in the draft. Thing is, I can appreciate the NY spotlight thing and the media and etc etc, but the Knicks---Sprewell or not---are older players. Mark Jackson, 35. Allan Houston and Spree (30). Still no real center. Maybe the Knicks would have a window of opportunity for a couple years, but after that, Webber could see himself as the Knicks' next Patrick Ewing: aging, surrounded by OK players, but taking the heat for not delivering a championship. And they do deliver the heat in New York. Not that he'll definitely win it all in Houston. But I trust CD and RT to put together a team that would be fun to watch and highly competitive (even in the West) and tightly knit. ------------------

I'm not sure which is worse, my sense of humor... or your reading comprehension skills. ------------------ You're a fine woman, why don't you mock that draft up
Why would Sacramento trade (even sign-and-trade) their best player for a backup small forward like Bo (and I like all former UH guys)? They would be better off saving the cap money and applying that to bid for free agents themselves (Davis, Mo Taylor, etc.). I still think NY might get it done with a Houston-Camby package. Those guys were offered up for Mutombo, and Deke isn't as good or as young as CWebb. If Chris really wants to be a Knick, I think he could make himself happy with Spree and Rice as his teammates. ------------------ Bingbong was set up, led to an untimely death in the prime of his life for no other reason than pure malice. If the Knicks get Webber, they will have to really screw up their team because they will lose key players. If the Rockets get Webber, we will screw up OUR team because we will lose (or not be able to sign) key players. Whatever team gets Webber will get a first rate power forward and gaping holes all around. Please, please, please -- no more Barkley deals that look good on paper. That "paper" probably will end up in the circular file -- again! ------------------
Clutch, You have to factor in that Mobley started on the bench and he still almost outshot everyone. Allan Houston would give up his shots. He is not aggressive when he needs to be and he is killed for that all the time. The minute Webber shows up, I GUARANTEE Houston would be the third option, his numbers will drop and he wouldn't flinch once if he had to do that. He will give up the shots. And if it turns out this guy was full of crap...damn, I didn't think about that before posting. But I trust him. He gives me alot of good info on my presently sucky Atlanta Braves. ------------------ Sleepless in the Bronx [This message has been edited by Almu (edited June 01, 2001).]
Whether Mobley starts or comes off the bench doesn't come in to play when you're talking about shots -- only minutes do. And Mobley played more minutes (38) than Allan Houston did (36.6), and statistically shot less in that time span. I couldn't tell if you were describing Allan Houston or Steve Francis. My only point is the situations are very comparable, so I noted the contradiction in Webber's thinking. While I agree Mobley may not share as much as we'd like if CWebb comes on board, I don't think Steve Francis is a selfish player by any means and would gladly give up shots for CWebb. After all, he is a point guard. Neither Sprewell nor Houston are point guards.... both are shooting guards (or if you wanted to make a case of one being a SF). ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
You make valid points, Clutch. Hmm...maybe I was a little tired when I heard that message. I wonder now if that makes since to have Spree and Houston with Webber and if Sac is willing to deal without Houston being in the package. Houston of course meaning Allan. ------------------ Sleepless in the Bronx
