Exactly, plus they have a coaching problem. If the Magic bring Hill back, they will become a joke again.

Hill might take over the team in a year or two...

The Magic are officially a joke once again. But I wouldn't be surprised if Hill still gets fired after the season. IMO, the Magic bringing him back is about the same as the Celtics bringing back Doc Rivers.

Hill will return as Magic head coach next season

Brian Schmitz | Sentinel Staff Writer
    Posted March 12, 2007

HOUSTON -- His team has been fading and is in danger of missing its preseason goal of making the playoffs, but Brian Hill will return next season as coach of the Orlando Magic, Magic General Manager Otis Smith said on Sunday.

"We're not letting him go," Smith said. "I fully expect him to fulfill his contractual obligations."

Hill, 59, signed a four-year contract with the Magic in May of 2005.

The Magic have slumped to a 29-35 record after a 13-4 start, leading to some speculation -- most of it nationally -- that Hill was in trouble.

There has been some unrest by Magic fans, including a Web site devoted to getting Hill fired. ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith even went as far as telling Orlando ESPN radio talk-show host Terry Bowden on 1080 AM recently that Hill would be fired.

The Magic finished 36-46 last season in Hill's first season as coach.

Just as Otis Smith told the Sentinel several weeks ago, he puts more of the onus on his players than Hill.

"I don't think he's done a bad job," said Smith, who is in his first season as general manager. "My coach has done a good job to this point. Our guys have just not played very good basketball."

The Magic have not been to the playoffs since 2003, and their stated goal in training camp was to return to the postseason.

Smith said that if the Magic do not make the playoffs this season, "I think we'll have to evaluate everything. We don't make the playoffs, all of us will be evaluated."

Hill is making his second go-round in Orlando. He coached the Magic from 1993-97, leading the franchise to the NBA Finals in 1995. He was forced out by a player coup in 1997, and took over the Vancouver Grizzlies before the 1997-98 season.

ESPN had speculated that Hill was being given "extra rope" by owner Rich DeVos because of the circumstances that led to his firing, but Smith quickly nixed that notion.

"No, not at all," he said. "This is this season."
