This is what I think, too. The Magic made this trade partly out of spite. Morey likely played hardball with them, calculated a sensible offer and extended it to the Magic long ago, who then constantly tried to get him offer more with smoke screens and rumored trades. In a normal negotiation, two parties start at opposite ends and gradually meet in the middle. Even if the buyer's initial offer is fair, it is frustrating for the seller to see the buyer stick to his original offer. It FEELS insulting to the seller, even if the buyer only came out and gave his final offer immediately so as to save time. You have to play the game. Sellers want to feel like they were able to get a little bit more out of the deal. It helps them save face. This happens all the time when buying a house. You never give your final offer at the start unless you're paying the asking price or higher. It is absolutely expected for the list price to fall, and the initial buyer's offer to increase. It sounds ridiculous, but it's not always just about the value of the offer. Psychology plays a big part, especially when such big egos are involved, and that is what the Rockets need to learn.
This is what I think about the Magic now that they will be cellar dwellers for a long time and what they got back.
