Exact reason they're not offering alot. Dwight's camp has continuously said not to trade him to Houston or he'd walk. That has hurt negotiations for Orlando badly with the Rockets. Now, Dwight opted in at the deadline keeping him from being a free agent and going to Brooklyn. I don't care what anyone says was "offered" to him by the FO, he opted in so they would trade him to the team of his choice and he not lose that extra 30 million. If he's traded to Houston, he'll stay here. He will not pass up 30 mill to go play in Dallas.

Just like he didn't pass up 30 mill to go to Brooklyn.

I hope so, but if things are this simple we wouldn't have all kinds of analysis/discussion everywhere.

Alot of it is posturing by Dwight's agent/camp because they know once he is traded to Houston, that he would not walk, which is why threatening Houston is their last chance at scaring them off and leaving only L.A. as the final destination in a three way trade with Cleveland, which is not interested in trading picks or players. Alot of posters here who are completely against getting Howard don't understand that if Dwight didn't pass up 30 mill to go to the number one team on his list (Brooklyn Nets), would he really pass up the money to go to Dallas which he really isn't even interested in?

If I was Morey I would go after the 2nd star first, then offer Martin rookies/picks whatever we have left for Dwight.

I know most Clutch fans think Iggy is overrated but the dude has been the best defender on the US team yes including Lebron,he's also a good playmaker.I think he and Dwight with the rest of our pieces could contend.

I would be fine with either Iggy/Gay.

Why? You don't have to go after the 2nd star first, because what if you don't get Dwight?

If we don't get Dwight, then we just keep our rookies and go after FA's in 2013.Jefferson/Jsmoove could be targets we go after.

Things actually are that simple, problem is, that lots of folks involved in the various analysis/discussion dont seem to understand the finer points of cap management and CBA rules.

If they did, there would be a lot less analysis/discussion. If you check back thru the various threads that have been in existence this summer, its basically the same discussion page after page after page.

Yup, this conversation is pretty well tapped out.

If we don't get Dwight, this will be our team. Develop the young guys and draft a center in the lottery next summer.

Which would have involved a trade.

Then Morey c***-blocked him at the trade deadline and in a panic he opted in rather than deal with 3 months on a new team while still wanting to angle his way to the NY or LA teams.

But we did get the unintentional comedy of, "Brooklyn only, Brooklyn only," when that ship had long since sailed.

I could see that scenario happening but I just don't see how they keep him on that team after all the bs. The nets offer is definately better player wise, but I was under the assumption that hennigans wanted cap space/picks and didn't care about being good for multiple years.... if so that still leads them back to only one option and thats us...

That article seems to be a fabrication. Even the people at the Orlando site don't believe it and the link in the post goes to nothing. I highly doubt anything they are saying about liking the Net deal better, I'm not even sure the Nets could offer salary relief by taking back bad contracts without including bad contracts themselves. They only have about 3-4 million in expirings.

edit for clarification : the link above goes to a post on bluenation. That post has a link to supposedly the original article that is dead. I did not mean to imply Anchel's link was bad.

"The Magic know that dealing Dwight somewhere he doesn't want to be will cause damage in that other superstars or potential superstars have been watching this drama unfold. If Dwight's request is ignored and he is traded somewhere he doesn't want to be, players may be hesitant to play on the Magic knowing the organization wouldn't acknowledge their trade request."

This is the biggest joke ever and I can't imagine any owner willing to be held hostage by some prima dona superstar. Guess what? When Orlando rebuilds and has the cap room to land a star, money will talk louder than, "Oh yeah, but they didn't give Dwight Howard the trade he wanted." Wah, wah, wah.

Exactly! They were holding out for more to get Morey to up his offer. He ain't budging and rightfully so. I would LOVE to see the circus that would be Howard in training camp with Orlando and then all the way to the day Lopez can be traded (Heck, Dwight couldn't even show up to his own bball camp this week). I would find it absolutely hilarious, especially if Lopez hurts his fragile self yet again near the time he can be traded.

This is pure comedy gold. I can't wait to see it develop. Morey is playing this like a pro and he ain't budging from his offer for a year (or less) rental of Dwight. Hennigan/Fegan are trying everything they know and everyone knows it's not working anymore, Dwight screwed himself up by showing his cards so many times no one is buying it.
