You're out of the loop. Dwight will not be sign and traded. There is no more extra money in that route. The Nets won't be able to free space anyways.

Sorry for the double post. I had to make the last paragraph clearer.

-In other words the Rockets would lose their traded assets and get nothing in the Dallas scenario

-Lakers scenario you get Bynum at the max contract

-Nets scenario which they probably can no longer do is the best option to get something back in a sign and trade

-least likely option is he stays and we win out. Granted that might be worth doing if he could stay.

Fantastic post man, certainly sums up Houston's situation and how promising the future of the franchise is after the 2012-2013 season.

without actual data? Dude, I'm not here to bottle feed you. You can look it up just as easy as I can. But if you need to be fed.

    http://www.shamsports.com/media/luxurytax.jpg

The luxury tax card isn't misleading. Cuban paid 150 million since it's inception, Les has paid 750 thousand. If it was because Dallas was a contender, then what were the T-Mac and Yao years for. Les could have paid above the tax line to put decent talent around them, but every year at the trade deadline he made a money saving move to get under the luxury tax threshold. The fact is the Houston Rockets have shown every reluctance to make big additions to put a real title contender on the floor. Les will not go into paying the tax even if he has a super-star or two. Hence no real support for Yao and T-Mac in their primes, by the time they had talent around them it was too late, they had broken down already.

Nielson is usually the go to when it comes to DMAs. More media market=more media revenues. Once you get past the top four, percentages are closer, but you are looking at the now. Howards camp is looking at his whole career earning power. He's going to go where he can get more money long term. I'm not saying Dallas is where he wants to go, but it sets him up for where he would rather want to go.

If he walks and goes to Dallas for the four year max, he can still get traded to sign another max contract. In four to five years, L.A has no Kobe, Nash or Pau. You think Dallas would trade for Bynum, heck yeah. In five years, no Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace, Brook Lopez contracts, you think Dallas would make that trade rather than Howard walk, heck yeah. Howard is going to get what he wants one way or the other. If he can make more money, even a little bit in Dallas, he's going to walk. The only question is if it's going to make up the 30 million he walks away from. That depends on Addidas.

Lastly, no one wants to talk about the big elephant in the room. We keep talking about daring him to walk away from the big contract. Orlando has the exact same leverage right now, but they are trying to trade him. Why?

No BS. Addidas gave DRose in Chicago a 250 million contract 185 gauranteed. Howards last contract was 36 million over six years and it ends this year. Call it rumor, call it what you want if Rose gets that in Chicago, you can bank that Howards going to get paid. You want to call it mis information or whatever, it didn't start with me:

His original trade request was the Nets, Lakers, or Dallas.

He already looked up some data for himself, you don't need to act like an ass about it. Thanks for actually doing some research though, a welcome change on for someone on the other side of this argument to actually make a thoughtful post instead of simply trolling.

His relationship with Orlando (front office and fans) is incredibly broken at this point. Orlando is the one city he might just leave $30M on the table to get out of.

Even if they believe they have a good chance to re-sign him, they have to seriously ask themselves if it's worth trying to call his bluff because of the unique situation there. Would he keep trying to force his way out of the city even if he re-signed? Would the fans accept him back? Can they even contend WITH Dwight due to their lack of flexibility or other assets?

At least in Houston it's a fresh relationship and a better basketball situation. Even if we took back 2 bad contracts and gave up 2 rookies and 2 picks (I think that seems unlikely) we'd STILL have more flexibility and a better team than Orlando. There are no hard feelings here, unlike in Orlando.

If Howard signs an endorsement deal nearly as big as Rose's, the threat to walk to Dallas is indeed very real. One would be a fool not to take his threat serious.

Big men don't sell shoes. I just don't buy all this massive contract talk. Hakeem and Shaq had shoes at Payless.

The fans would be furious if he was signed back because he clearly has no interest of going playing for them anymore. That year would just be a waste. Not good enough to make the playoffs, but not bad enough to seriously suck for a good pick. They also barely have any young talent to build upon for the future. And they can't even do SnTs anymore.

He has a better chance to sell shoes in China than in the U.S..

I honestly think the U.S. market has dried up for him because of this melodrama.

If he and his agent / marketing company were smart, they would realize that Asia (especially China) offers a chance for he and Adidas to make some serious scratch before the market becomes inundated with other players and their shoes.

Are we there yet? It's still August. Prepare youself for being butt-hurt. If it doesn't happen, we'll be fine with the young guy and win 30 or so games.

    You're making my point.

One link tells us that Rose could approach up to 250 million over a lifetime contract with Adidas. It doesn't mention that Chicago was the reason for the contract. It ties the contract only to the player, Rose.

    Another link quotes the following:
"Norman is telling the truth: Adidas will still pay Howard well wherever he winds up, but Orlando and Chicago won’t get him paid and marketed the way Los Angeles and Brooklyn will. Rose could become the highest-paid shoe endorser in the NBA with his next Adidas contract, sources said, and remember: Shoe companies don’t market teams. They market individuals."

That is that Adidas markets individuals, not teams. In the same article they say that Brooklyn and LA guarantee Howard a maximum contract with the shoe company. But other than to say that they'll still pay Howard in other cities, and that Orlando and Chicago won't come close to the max, it doesn't mention what he would be paid in other cities.

That article was written Dec 24, 2011 and claims that Howard's next shoe deal will be made within a year, by Dec 24, 2012, presumably. He would have to be traded to a team by the trade deadline, not by the time he walks as a free agent, to get max money, as his contract would be granted to him this year, not after he's a free agent.

The next article only says that Howard cannot be worth as much in the same market as Adidas' other top star, Rose...and that's in Chicago.

The next article doesn't mention anything about Adidas. It talks about the drama that unfolded at the trade deadline last year. Worthless article doesn't even come close to making your point.

And the last article talks about how much money Dwight would lose by walking in free agency and getting a 4 year deal versus a 5 year deal. This has actually been talked about and analyzed much more extensively than by this Orlando biased source. There are pages of threads showing you how he would actually be losing over 30 million over his NBA career in NBA salary by walking in free agency.

So you prove my point. After reading through your 5 articles in an attempt to show me where you see exactly what Adidas is going to pay Howard for each market, you come up short. Nowhere in those links did I see that Adidas will pay X amount of incentive money to sign with Dallas, Houston, LA or NY. We only see how much Rose could make over his lifetime with his Adidas contract.

Try reading the article and understanding what it's saying before making your own claims. And don't post an article for the sake of posting it, with the hope that I won't read it and will instead take your word that your argument was made in them.

Yes, it's misinformation. It's BS. You're blowing smoke out your butt. You do not know what the difference in lifetime amounts Adidas will pay Howard for playing in any specific market, except for how much he will not make if he plays in the same market as Rose.

Why? Next years draft is going to be considerably weaker than the past one.

I don't think its accurate to say there won't be a sign and trade.

Does the fact that there's no extra money to do a sign and trade preclude a sign and trade from happening? For example, if a team that Dwight would like to play for doesn’t have cap space to sign him as a FA, Dwight would prefer a sign and trade, no?

what he is saying is that Howard could lose out on upwards of $57MM if he doesn't re-sign with the team that has his bird rights.

if all things were the same, I am sure Howard would love a SnT to the team of his choice..but due to the new CBA he would be losing out on a ton of money.

I'm of the belief that there's a lot of posturing from his agents/managers/him that he won't resign with any team other than the few he wants to go. Because that's the only thing within their power to do at this point to get him at the place he wants for the money he wants. But anything can happen when he's looking at leaving so much money on the table.

But to be clear, if his people are not bluffing, and he decides to leave the money on the table and walk, there's still a possibility to do a sign and trade.

It's already hilarious. This happens every year when a player doesn't want to come here.
