i would actually be happy if we didnt get damon stoudamire. i dont think he'll be able to play defense the way JVG wants.

i'd rather we get a defensive SG first. a waived michael finley would be sweet.

 

The Rockets would be dumb to trade Juwon Howard at this time unless they have a power forward who can score waiting in the wings to back up Stro.

 

Let's just brace ourselves and prepare for whoever that Rockets surprise PG...

I believe this BS-filled report with 0% if my heart. Guys, Im a Baltimore Orioles fan, and if there's one think I've learned this year, it's that most internet reports/radio reports/ newspaper reports claiming to have heard something from a "source" involving player movement are almost NEVER true. Don't believe this guys, its false.

 

Interesting. This guy says Houston/Portland hasn't been able to work out a deal, but Nash says we've only offered Spoon? I think the Rockets probably offered more than just Spoon, one of the guards must in the package to work out.

 

I really doubt that DS is going to the Lakers. He definitely doesn't fit the Phil Jackson preference of "Big Guards". Mark me down for Miami being the "mystery team" as well.

 

More than a $3.5 mil per season for DS would be too much.

As for Howard, it would be very stupid and makes no sense whatsoever if the Rockets trade a big man PF for yet aNOTHER guard, this will only increase the backcourt glut we have on this team.

The ONLY way DS will play here is if the Rockets get rid of a guard or two in the process. I still think we would be forced to take on a Derek Anderson if we do a SnT with Portland, which I would be more than fine/happy with. In return, we would probably give up Wesley and another expiring contract or two (Spoon, Moochie, etc.)

I hope this is what the Rockets do, they need to get a big SG to start in the backcourt, and Anderson would be the perfect fit if we get rid of Wesley and another guard.

I'm slow today. I had in my mind Howard making 4.7 for some odd reason when you said it.

Still, I can't see it being one for one anyhow- especially with Spoon being mentioned- that'd be an even higher starting salary! If Spoon or Howard would be involved, we'd likely get back Patterson or Miles, both of whom could play some 4 in a backup capacity.

 

Hopefully that's what will happen. I thought the Rockets should have gone after Jones last summer, I think we would have gone a lot deeper in the playoffs.

Yeah. but basketball is a game of height. Especially in this era of few quality big man, i would rather have 6 9" powerforward on the bench over a starting 6 0 (?) point guard. especially in a team with so many scoring optiions, anyone (hate to say it but if we are deperate) even Mooch, can bring the ball up the court. (or can he !? ) but as we learned last year once you loose a big guy, you can't replace him.

How are we going to manage to get him to work for 1.5M. He is opting out of a 2yr 5.1M deal, so he must be looking to get paid more than 2.55M.

 

I thought the deals that would make sense from Portland's perspective were Wesley (plus NY 2nd) or James for Stoud, if were willing to part with that. However Portland signing Dixon the other day didn't help these prospects.

Howard in the equation doesn't make much sense from Portland's perspective, they have Zach and Ratliff for multiple big money years plus they probably want Pryzbilla back after next year, they need another vet 4 back-up less than we do.

This really isn't anything new. We knew Stoud wasn't going to sign for an LLE. We knew if the Rockets got him it was through a sign and trade. All this tells us is the time table is soon whether us and Portland can find something satisfactory.

I try our 06 1st rounder and Baker or our NY 2nd and Wesley for DS signed at like a 14 mil 3 year contract and see what Portland says. I'd like to have DS, but we certainly don't need a desperation move.

My hunch is DS signs with Mia or LA. He is going to want to go to a high profile place he will get major PT if not start. For SA he would have to compete for back-up minutes, and I am sure they don't want to put much more money in the PG spot with a lot of money to Parker and last year's rook.
