lol, wow. id be happy if battier were a force on ANY end of the court. hes a good defensive player, but calling him MJ on the defensive end is ludicrous. he's an excellent team defender but a mediocre man to man defender because of his lack of athleticism. stop overrating the guy and save the 'greatest defender omg dont trade him ever' talk for when the man actually shuts someone down on defense.

Battier is an elite defender and an impact player. He may be no MJ of defense, but you don't trade him just some "decent PF."

The guy erased countless mistakes by teammates, including Yao and Tracy, and is one the the pieces to build around unless some offer blows you away.

You don't just give him away from some Chris Wilcox type underachiever who has a good chance of flaking out on you. If you wanted just a "decent PF," there are several free agents available who can fill that role ably: Joe Smith, Mikki Moore, Corliss Williamson.

Thanks for posting the link, btw. It does sound like the Rockets just passed on it. Jason Quick certainly sounded pretty confident in his info. It also seemed like he's heard some more rumors but he wasn't ready to discuss them right now. I'm sure we'll see some stuff in some of the Sunday morning columns that talk trade rumors.

You can certainly see why the Blazers would be interested in Battier. They would be looking at a C/PF combo of Oden/Aldridge and then at the SF/SG spots they would have Roy/Battier. That's a pretty complete 4 spots right there.

One thing about dealing with the Blazers though, I think they have like 4 2nd round picks (their first is pick #37). Any deal I do with them I try to snag at least one of those from them. I think it's pretty safe to assume they will be moving a couple of those 2nd rounders in trades before the draft. I think it's highly unlikley they use all 4.

Still wondering what Battier can do on an Adelman team.

This would make that one guy that always calls into 610 to talk specifically about Jarrett Jack quite the happy camper.

There is this caller on the local talk radio.

This guy has the worse man crush ever on Jarrett Jack. The host calls him Jarrett Jacks dad. He would buy season tickets if Jack came to the Rockets.

    Keep Shane. That is all.

Interesting - Jason Quick mentions 2 WC teams tried to trade for Portland's #1 pick and they were willing to give up HOFers. Which are these 2 teams? T-wolves/Lakers/Nuggets?

How about Battier as a new and improved Corliss Williamson?

Because he is one of the few attractable assets we have and the SF position isn't the most pressing need we have. The rox could put either tmac/snyder/novak at the 3. Although Battier is a good player, he is a luxury we cant afford when we have glaring holes at the PG and PF positions.

Battier is our 3rd best player and meshes with Yao and Tracy very well. We shouldn't trade him unless we get a big upgrade at PG, PF or both.

I don't like this trade scenario at all. Battier should be worth more than that garbage. Sure, Outlaw or Webster could turn out to be something, but personally, I doubt it. I'd take those guys in the kind of deal that brought us Snyder, but I wouldn't give up Battier for them. I'm not very high on Jarrett Jack either. I'd like him on this team as a back-up, but for Battier? Again, no.

If Battier can't land us a better package than this, I say keep him.

IMO Jarrett Jack is a significant upgrade from Alston, even if the numbers don’t show it. He’s a true floor leader with the tools to be a lock-down defender. Jack represents the type of versatile guard that fits well in Adelman’s system. Not flashy, but solid in every aspect of the game (running the break, penetrating, passing, finishing, hitting mid-range jumpers/3-point shots, defending, etc.). He’s got a calmness to his game that reminds me a lot of a Cassell or Billups type of point guard. I actually would be very surprised if Portland trades him away unless they’re certain they can get Conley.

And with Webster, you’re essentially getting back that lotto pick you traded away to get Battier.

If they can't get Lewis or Artest, this would be the type of move I wouldn't mind seeing the Rockets make.

Does this mean we are getting RonRon, so that Shane becomes expendable?

Is Jarrett Jack a big enough upgrade at PG to fill the gaping hole at SG/SF left by Shane? If the Rockets make this trade, Webster better be a true diamond in the rough because we are giving up the best player. In most cases, the team giving up the best player LOSES the trade.

If Shane is traded, the Rockets should try to package him and get a better player in return. We need quality more than quantity.

Sounds like to me that one of two things happened with these rumors:

    1) Rockets exploring alternate deal(s) if the can land Artest and then trade Battier to fill other needs especially since Artest would play Shane's position.

    and/or

    2) Other teams, hearing Battier's name mentioned around the league as possibly on the block, have called the Rockets wondering what his trade value is.

Jack + Outlaw is interesting. Jack is a nice PG but I agree that he isn't someone you can pencil in and think he makes you that much netter to compete with SA, Dallas and/or Phoenix. I've always been intrigued by Outlaw. He is an ATHLETE and he looked to improve his jumper when the Rockets played them this last season. Portland you have to give up more to make that deal even, IMO.

Webster is interesting too. He is far more athletic than he is given credit for and he has a nice shot though it hasn't translated extremely well yet in the NBA.

True or not though, it's interesting/nice to hear the Rockets' name thrown into a lot of rumors reported around the league.

What gaping hole would you be talking about? You mean the one that would be bigger if we traded shane then the gaping hole we currently have at PG/PF?

The 2/3 spots are the easiest to fill, as we already have one of the best wing players in the league.
