Trash talk/shove != punching someone while they aren't even looking your way. Everyone trash talks, that's nothing. Little love tap, is not going to harm anyone. Potentially breaking someone's jaw will. His arm is bigger than his head, that's a huge difference from a tap on the shoulder.
That depends on how well he can control himself. Lets say the Ducks gave Blount a slap on the wrist you don't think some other team is going to deliberate to try to get Blount riled up so he does something stupid like throw a punch during a critical drive. For that matter a team is based on trust and fighting your teammates doesn't help foster trust. The Ducks did the right thing and while losing Blount won't help their season I think keeping him would've been worse.
I love Oregon for suspending him for the season but kept him on scholarship. That actually showed that they: 1) Respect the game and do the right things even if it hurts them 2) Do care about the individual player's well being even if the player can't help them Also, Blunt wasn't running, he was getting in a defensive position, it'd be like saying Mayweather runs away when fighting when in reality he's just a defensive fighter
When I watch that video I end up wondering if some of that hop and back-pedal is actually "oh crap. whadidido. oh crap. whadidido. oh crap." As in, he knew this was going to have a really bad ending.
Or he sucker punched somebody and didn't want to get what was coming to him, so he ran away in the most manly way possible by flexing and taunting.
Like some one else said, he wasn't turning and running, but he was prepared for retaliation. He was in Boise State territory after all. Sun Tzu: 攻而必取者,攻其所不守也。守而必固者,守其所不攻也。故善攻者,敵不知其所守;善守者,敵不知其所攻; 微乎微乎,至於無形;神乎神乎,至於無声,故能为敵之司命 You can be sure of succeeding in your attacks if you only attack places which are undefended. You can ensure the safety of your defense if you only hold positions that cannot be attacked.Hence that general is skillful in attack whose opponent does not know what to defend; and he is skillful in defense whose opponent does not know what to attack. Be subtle to the point of formless, be secretive to the point of inaudible; thus holding enemy's fate in our hands. Ironic thing is that he might have won the battle (the fight) with that concept but lost the war (his football career).
A whole season seems harsh. I love it how preach hitting hard an being tough on the field, but just turning off that intensity is hard.
Thus why I said he succeed in using the strategy for the fight, but failed at using the strategy for the war
Punching someone unaware and then getting as far away as possible is chicken***** unless you're a professional fighter. Just as chicken***** as it is to taunt someone and then run away like the BS player did. This is football, not freaking war.
That would suggest players punch each other post-game all the time. Since they don't, it doesn't seem to be *that* hard.
I agree the guy deserved to get punched in the face, but honestly was the barbershop biased? What if it was a black guy sucker punched by a white guy after taunting in his face?
That's the problem with playing a sport. You are encouraged to do everything you can to win but have to stay within the rules.
Jack Lambert threw Cliff Harris on his head after Harris taunted the Steelers kicker. People just said he was a tough guy standing up for a teammate.
Guess who's going to be reinstated? A couple of thoughts: 1) I thought the punishment was severe, but Oregon is a bunch of wussies for not sticking behind it. 2) Blount has met with everyone except Jesse Jackson...he met with Tony Dungy, John Gruden, Kermit Washington...Kermit Washington? WTF. Kermit deserved to be blackballed out of the NBA waaaah
I find it kind of surprising that they'd reinstate them considering the roll they've been on without him. His replacement (who went to my high school!) has been tearing it up as well.
They looked pretty dam good against us last week. Blount, is a known quantity and they feel their chances are better with him than without him. Its like saying the Rockets played great a few games without Yao but that doesn't mean we wouldn't want Yao back. I'm still wondering what the rest of the team thinks about him since he went after his own teammates. They've got to have him on a short leash especially with games against USC, UCLA and Oregon State still out there. On a related note. I heard from another Cal fan that Autzen stadium has the rudest fans out of the PAC-10.
