There is a guy on CNN right now talking about them having to suspend evacuations at one of the hospitals because people are overturning the boats of and threatening those that are trying to get the sick and ailing out of these hospitals FOR NO APPARENT REASON.

I can understand getting food and supplies to stay alive. There is absolutely no excuse for anyone to be going after jewelry electronics, etc. Don't give me this "oppressed" bullsh*t. Why not try to help your fellow man stay alive and help each other get out of this mess? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH SOME OF THESE PEOPLE?!!! I don't understand it. I really don't. This is not a race thing. It's simply that some people don't give a crap about anyone or anything but their own selfish interests. It's truly sad.

I have every intention to donate some cash to help. While it won't be much, it will be all I can give. Some of what is happening in NO right now is making it difficult for me to reach for my wallet.

I don't know about these folks, but I would be looting a rubber raft and some paddles.

haven't you been reading krosfyah's replies and explanations? it's because these people have had to live through poverty...and poverty gives them the explicit right to loot non-essentials like jewelry and TVs

oh wait, I'm sorry...it doesn't make it right but it makes it "understandable" and therefore worthy of giving them a pass

Just flipped past Fox long enough to hear Bill O'Reilly wonder aloud, "I'm trying to figure out if the criminal element made a calculated decision to stay in town, so they could loot."

Those geniuses -- "stay in town" during a Category 4 hurricane, and get free tennis shoes! Brilliant!

This is truly sad....Why are they taking guns? What is the need for beer? These people have gone over board. These people are thinking as criminals. Breaking into hospitals for no apparent reason, and taking stereos out of parked cars is seriously a low point in society. There are many people in the city right now that needs help and while these looters should be helping officials rescue survivors they are looting the items that will mostly not work.

I am sure the kind and gentle-hearted citizens of New Orleans are just borrowing the weapons so that they can defend themselves and still practice their God given second amendment rights to bear arms in this tragedy. After all, defense of self comes first, right? Also, with all the water, I'm sure there's some shrinkage going on, so the guys have got to feel insecure about it. Guns are a quick and easy remedy.

I think its the governor's fault. If Bobby Jindal was in office, there would be no looters.

    Looters shooting at cops.
    Looters shooting at firemen.
    Looters shooting at news helicopters.
Looters knocking over boats full of sick people from hospitals.

If you are defending these individuals, then there is something wrong with you. I wish the cops would just shoot back at this point.

That's as silly as shooting someone for their tennis shoes.

    Oh wait.....that actually happens

Why don't you try and understand what they're going through? You are very intolerant.

Do you guys understand what a freaking state of emergency is? Gesh, you guys have lead a sheltered life, clearly. Its basically every man for himself out there.

Since we started this thread, things have predictabely gotten worse.

For 4 days now, these people have not:
    had a decent night sleep
    had any significant food
    had any water
And many of these people are cramped into tight quarters with no shows or restrooms.

It is freaking HELL ON EARTH.

I think Jesus himself would be getting irratable by now. (That is a joke but you know what I'm saying).

Remeber that movie of the plane crash where people literally ate the other passengers just to survive? Extreme times calls for extreme measures that people like you sitting in A/C typing on a keyboard clearly don't understand.

Otherwise good people are probably getting desperate to save their families. If I know I'm in a helpless situation to change my envirnment because the lawlessness around me, I'm out to save my family. To hell with everybody else. Sometimes you gotta look out for you and yours.

Yes, there are criminal people out there. There always are and always will be. They are scum. But most of the people doing bad things, under normal circumstances, are probably decent people just doing what they can to survive.

    Its a freaking disaster...literally.

I understand that you usually don't have anything to add a thread but smart ass comments, and that's fine.

But when this thread started yesterday no one was talking about guys going out armed and shooting law enforcement. That's a totally different situation from someone walking out a store with beer or sneakers.

So that means it is "understandable" that they shoot at cops, firemen, rescue helicopters and rob others?

Can't we make a strong case for banning all guns for good (of a civil society)?

Now I won't be able to sleep at night.

Edit: Its funny that you don't find my post interesting considering how much you respond to them or comment on them. I mean in the past week you've even commented on my sense of humor in a thread about a response I've mine, and then you were the first to respond to me in this thread.

Once again proving your obssession with me is clinically unhealthy given that you are now responding to posts you deem unworthy of your intelligence.

I can believe this. You're truly dealing with a different element of people in New Orleans than you are in Germany. I've spent time in both places, and believe me, the people are night and day different. In Germany there is an underlying moral code that runs through the people - a respect for the common man and a desire to do the right thing. In inner city New Orleans that doesn't exist. The education levels of the New Orleans folks are undoubtedly low, as well, due to the lousy schools in the inner city and high drop out rates. That's not a problem with an average person in Germany. The levels of poverty are awful in New Orleans, and not a problem in a place like Germany. Hence, no Germans loot, but in New Orleans you have people looting, fighting, shooting at police (and each other), etc.

It's Lord Of The Flies down there. We need Kurt Russell in an eye patch.

I don't understand your point. The post I quoted was the only post I was referring to. That's why I quoted it.

People are shooting at cops, firemen, the sick and elderly, and news helicopters with the guns they stole yesterday. I don't understand that. If that makes me a "smartass" then so be it.
